Sydney Metalcore Rising Stars Sugar Spine Release New EP 'Mirror Talk

Sydney metalcore rising stars Sugar Spine just dropped their crushing new EP 'Mirror Talk', a relentless mix of sharp guitar riffs paired with evocative vocals, technical sequences and bone busting breakdowns.

Upon an immediate cursory listen, 'Mirror Talk' sees Sugar Spine expand on their invigorating brand of metallic hardcore across seven new tracks. Erupting in a nostalgia driven and aggressive wall of sound from the opening track to the closer, their commendable musicianship builds and resolves tension effortlessly in a way that sends shivers down your spine. Thematically 'Mirror Talk' explores pertinent issues in the current climate such as misogyny, political corruption and discrimination with their signature explosiveness.

“This thing is pretty damn aggressive,” remarks Josh Muncke, the sole member of the project. “When writing these tracks, I really wanted to transfer a huge energy to the listener, as well as a good dose of anger. These tracks all revolve around some heavy but important topics, and the sonic delivery had to match the weight of the subjects. Whilst I was constantly tempted to outsource the production to people of much higher skill and calibre than myself, I really wanted to put my whole being into the sound that Sugar Spine was going for, a sound that wasn’t perfect and polished. After months of tweaking things and my laptop almost blowing up, I got what I wanted in the end.”

Their latest singles 'Gutter Paint' & 'Mirror Talk' have been gaining worldwide coverage and airplay including features on Wall of Sound, Sonic Perspectives, Heavy Mag, The Circle Pit, Spotify "Homegrown & Heavy" editorial playlist & more. Quickly building a fanbase on the success of their previous work, Sugar Spine's debut EP ‘Mirror Talk’ is destined to explode, turning heads and grabbing throats everywhere for a solid thirty minutes.

Sugar Spine made an impressive debut with their single 'Go Outside' which landed on the ‘New Core’ editorial playlist and amassed over 15,000 views on YouTube. Making the most of lockdowns, Josh Muncke (vocalist, guitarist and songwriter) knuckled down and finished Sugar Spine's debut EP 'Mirror Talk'; showcasing influences such as Slipknot, Knocked Loose, Stick to Your Guns as well as boasting a guest feature from Nick Rossi of Born Of Osiris fame. Although new to the scene, they have been gaining recognition amongst music fans and critics alike further cementing why Sugar Spine are primed to be one of the finest acts in the Australian metalcore breed.
