Témé Tan announces details of ‘Améthys’ EP

Témé Tan, the musical alias of multi-instrumentalist and producer Tanguy Haesevoets, has unveiled a new EP for Améthys, the latest track to be taken from his forthcoming debut album, which is due for release in September of this year. The EP includes remixes from Compuphonic, Luke Top & Pacemakr, plus and the original mix of the track.

Of Congolese descent and growing up between Kinshasa and Brussels, Tanguy’s first musical memories were the rumba records his uncles played at family reunions and the zouk tapes of his cousins. Deciding to become a musician after celebrating his 18th birthday at a Beastie Boys concert, his music is a modern blend of minimalistic grooves, electronic beats and seductive harmonies.

Talking about Améthys, Témé Tan said:

This song is a tribute to my mom, Cécile Verstraete. She passed away in February 2014. The title Améthys is a nickname I gave to her. In French we call people who have both African and European parents "métis". The first crystal my mother ever gave me was an amethyst. She thought this stone would help to study and meditate. I later discovered that the amethyst was linked to creative people as well. So I mixed "métis" with "amethyst" and came up with this name for her. The song is written around memories we shared when I was a little boy.

This year has already seen Témé Tan play mesmerizing sets at Eurosonic and alongside Milky Chance and Songhoy Blues on European tours, and now he heads into summer festivals through Europe and beyond.
