Textures to release new album

Textures was formed in 2000 in Etten-Leur near Breda (NL). The band has released 4 albums so far, the fifth album will be released in February 2016 through Nuclear Blast records. Textures toured Europe, North America and Asia several times. Its really hard to describe Textures music but lets call Progressive Metalcore.

Not so long ago you announced the release of two new records. Where did you get the idea to announce the release of two records at the same time?

- While writing PHENOTYPE we realized that we had a lot of great demo material in the "Textures idea bank" from previous years, old riffs, ideas that didnt make it to previous albums and unfinished songs plus a lot of new ideas. We wanted to have one long track on the album but while writing it became too long, way too long to be in one album with another 9 songs. That long song became the second album. We figured out later that it would be even more special to release two separate albums which share the same concept and musical themes instead of releasing a standard double album.

Will the albums be very different or will they complement each other?

- The albums share the same lyrical concepts and musical themes but differ in style. PHENOTYPE is a heavy album per definition with lots of catchy parts, its in your face basically. GENOTYPE is way more eclectic, its one 40 min long track, its very proggy.

Could you tell us something about Phenotype? Did a lot change compared to the previous album?

- Over the years the band has gone through many line up changes so every new album theres a new band member therefore a new line. This time everybody in the band writes and everyone can submit his ideas, this wasnt the case in the previous albums. Its a democratic band these days.

Are there any special things we need to know about the tracks?

- Most tracks are "story like" songs, meaning you move from part to part and get swapped away to following part. Only one or two songs have a verse-chorus kind of structure.

Do you have a favourite track?

- Not really

And what do we need to know about Genotype?

- GENOTYPE is not like any album we ever wrote. Its one long track and its probably the most eclectic Textures album to date. It crosses between prog metal, acoustic rock, fusion, thrash metal, sludge and more....

How does the band go about making an album? Is everyone involved in the writing process?.

- Yes, everybody writes. We gather all the ideas in one folder plus old ideas which were already in the "Textures bank". Then, we screen all the ideas together to see what we like the most.

Who decideds which songs make it onto the album?

- All of us. The main challenge is to finish a song, or almost finish a song. The almost finished songs usually have the most potential of making it to the album.

You're going to tour with the new album. Can we also expect you at the summer festivals?

- Yes, but unfortunately we cant confirm anything yet so youll have to wait a bit :)
