TH da Freak (grunge/garage, France) - 'I'm Still' - new single out today

Leading figure in the French alternative scene, Bordeaux-based songwriter Thoineau Palis - aka TH da Freak - has built a vast and captivating discography (fourteen releases in eight years!), paying tribute to his own pantheon of rock heroes, populated by lo-fi geeks and beautiful losers of all kinds. He returns this year with a new album Negative Freaks set to be released on March 21 via French indie labels Howlin' Banana, Flippin' Freaks, and Les Disques du Paradis.

Negative Freaks marks a new chapter as the band’s first album composed collectively by the five-member line previously reserved for live shows. Shifting from Thoineau Palis' solo songwriting to a collaborative and free-spirited approach resulted in a raw and massive sound, blending proto-grunge influences from early Mudhoney, TAD or Nirvana with pop song structures, dissonant tones and surreal lyrics inspired by Devo. Negative Freaks deliver a massive grunge monolith driven by a collective and uncompromising vision.

Today, TH da Freak share debut single ‘I'm Still’ the first track the band worked on together for the album, making it a founding piece for their new sound. The tempo shifts frequently, moving from fast punk sections to grungy chords and riffs bordering on the sludge metal sound of the Melvins.

« For the music video, which I shot in a DIY style with our friend Eddie behind the camera (he takes nearly all of our photos and contributes significantly to the art direction for this new album), I wanted to recreate an atmosphere reminiscent of Los Santos in GTA—an arid, chaotic, and absurd world, somewhat like the one in Ari Aster’s film Bo is Afraid. » Th da Freak explains.
