The Danish singer Nina Baun casts a nostalgic glance at a not-so-distant past with the single ‘Kan du huske’ from upcoming EP ‘Status’

Danish artist Nina Baun is a versatile singer, songwriter, musician, and composer who moves with curiosity and openness within jazz, pop, and contemporary composition. After many years as a creative solo artist, she chose another direction with steady work, family life, and performing as a musician in other people’s projects. But as time passed, the longing to create returned. This longing has now materialized into the EP Status, where Baun reflects on her life and connects past with present through five songs that explore themes such as identity, existence, time, and change.

On the EP, set for a release in February 2026, Baun has teamed up with drummer and producer Rune Lohse (New Kids, Blue Foundation, Horse Orchestra) , who, together with guitarist Mads Nørgaard (Lucky Lo, The Orgelheimers) and bassist Nicolai Claesson (Horse Orchestra, Billie and the Bell), form Baun’s new band. The first single, Kan du huske (Do You Remember in Danish), is a nostalgic yet forward-looking song that beautifully reflects on the passage of time and the changes we undergo in our lives. As Baun herself describes it:

“A nostalgic look back at a not-so-distant past when there was more time and space for boredom and slowness, more room for imagination, less capitalization on our attention, and, in my own life, fewer obligations. And of course, not least, a loving reminder that we can still hold on to all the good things—if we remember them!”

In 2011, NINA BAUN released her debut album Something Is Always Moving, followed in 2016 by her second album Human. Both records received positive reviews in Danish as well as international press. With these releases, Baun established herself as a progressive and experimental singer and songwriter, who naturally combined jazz, pop, and experimental composition into a personal whole. Alongside this, she has remained musically active in other contexts: as lead singer in Peter Danstrup’s various ensembles, as backing vocalist for Oh Land, Andreas Odbjerg, and Turboweekend, on tours with Norwegian/American guitarist Lage Lund, and through collaborations with a wide range of musicians from the Danish jazz, improvised, and indie scenes.

After several years of hiatus as a creative artist, Nina Baun now returns with a strong and personal musical vision. Past and present unite on the new EP ‘Status’, the result of an intense process in which both old and new songs have been brought together into a modern, artistic whole — an experimental intersection between pop, jazz, and R&B. The new music is not merely an update of her earlier work but also a revelation of her greatest driving force at this moment: to create music that is personal, genuine, and true to her own artistic values. ‘Status’ features both Danish and English lyrics that explore themes of identity, existence, time, and change. Above all, the lyrics reflect Baun’s own journey — both as a human being and as an artist.
