The Dream Machine channel Mickey Rourke to release 'Angel Heart' - Album Out This Week!

A rollercoaster ride through voodoo, fairground attractions and ghostly premonitions, The Dream Machine release the final teaser from their upcoming, third album, Angel Heart – OUT NOW. Peppy radio rock guitar lines meet seaside dancehall Farfisa melodies in another heady rush of skittish, jukebox alt-pop days prior to their masterful long-player, Fort Perch Rock being released on Fri 27 February 2026 via Run On Records.

Trading the churning greens of the Irish Sea on their doorstep on the Wirral for the thrills of Europe, the single arrives as the five-piece continue a short overseas tour in support of psych legends, Kula Shaker. Returning from Belgium and Germany to kick off a run of eight intimate, instore performances at Liverpool’s Jacaranda on Sun 8 March 2026, The Dream Machine count major cities including Leeds, Nottingham and Glasgow into their plans.

Written after being inspired by the 1987 film of the same name, Angel Heart arrives after the album’s previous singles, Flowers On The Razorwire and Things That Make Us Cry, picked up airtime with BBC 6 Music and plaudits from media including Rolling Stone UK. Delving into the band’s singular world of big sounds and small town quirks, frontman and lyricist, Zak McDonnell also responded to media invitations to explore his most memorable charity shop vinyl finds, deep cuts and classics from Phil Spector’s incomparable production work and The Dream Machine’s picks of the best and most underrated British artists.

Citing The Coney Island Circus Sideshow and kindred musical spirits, The Lemon Twigs and Felt as further inspiration for the track, Angel Heart’s upbeat, drivetime tempo and impassioned vocals light a firecracker of anticipation ahead of the eight, still unreleased songs arriving with Fort Perch Rock this Friday.

McDonnell says: “I wrote ‘Angel Heart’ straight after watching the film. I got really into an album called ‘Forever Breathes The Lonely Word’ by an underrated 80’s band called Felt a few years ago and the singer, Lawrence, is a brilliant poet. That album sort of been in my subconscious ever since and I think it’s bleeding through in this one a lot. We met The Lemon Twigs at a party around the same time and bombarded them with questions. What they told us made me want to use more interesting chords and structures on songs like this one.”

Recorded and self-produced between studios on the Wirral and in Liverpool, The Dream Machine’s Fort Perch Rock album is to be released on multiple formats, including digital, CD and special edition, coloured vinyl editions. A limited, band store-only butterfly effect vinyl version is released with a one-off, glow in the dark 7” EP of covers that pays tribute to the Motown girl group, The Shirelles.

The band’s journey started ahead of the release of their 2022 debut, Thank God! It’s The Dream Machine, followed by 2024’s James Skelly-produced follow-up, Small Time Monsters. Songs from across a rapidly expanding catalogue of songs are set to make up setlists as the band continues on their run of live dates concluding with a landmark homecoming celebration at Liverpool’s O2 Academy on Fri 27 March 2026.
