The Land Of Sometimes (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) ft Music by Sir Tim Rice, Pete Hobbs, and Terry Davies
Sony Music Masterworks today releases the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack by Olivier Award-winner and BAFTA-nominated composer TERRY DAVIES to the brand-new animation feature film THE LAND OF SOMETIMES.
Alongside Davies's sweeping, uplifting and energetic orchestral score, conducted by the composer himself, the soundtrack is rich in new original songs written by legendary lyricist and EGOT-winner SIR TIM RICE, returning to the world of animation for the first time in over twenty-five years, together with PETE HOBBS (of indie pop duo 'The Boy Least Likely To') and vocals from the cast, including EWAN MCGREGOR (Star Wars, Beauty and the Beast); ALISHA WEIR (Matilda: The Musical, Abigail) as well as HELENA BONHAM CARTER (Harry Potter, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory); JESSICA HENWICK (Glass Onion) and ANDREI SHEN (Matilda: The Musical). These sit harmoniously alongside tracks from the original audio book, composed by FRANCESCA LONGRIGG. Other members of the star-studded voice cast include Asa Butterfield, Terry Jones (Monty Python) and Mel Brooks (Spaceballs, Blazing Saddles).
Right from the soundtrack's jaunty opening track 'The Postman' via the eponymous 'The Land of Sometimes' springing from the wonderful musical partnership of Sir Tim Rice and Pete Hobbs to the touching audio book track 'Dare Make A Wish' by Francesa Longrigg, the soundtrack blends Terry Davies's classic musical craft - honed over years of composing for film, theatre, TV, musicals and dance - with Sir Tim Rice's effervescent lyrics, the contemporary storytelling magic of the plot and striking animation to create an unforgettable introduction to a new onscreen world and a heartfelt and memorable cinematic experience for modern audiences.
SIR TIM RICE notes: “I've enjoyed working on songs for The Land of Sometimes, especially with Peter Hobbs's music, not to mention the star line-up of vocalists. Since I first encountered 'Tom and Jerry', I've always been an animation fan and it’s fun to be back in that world, often more real than the one we inhabit, certainly more agreeable.”
Composer TERRY DAVIES adds: “Creating music to match a freshly imagined, fantastical world provides a delightful challenge for a composer. In The Land of Sometimes the score also follows the shifting challenges for twins Elise and Alfie plus the extraordinary characters they meet along the way. All this encouraged me to compose music ranging from tender to fearful, determined to triumphant”.
