The late Miles Cooper Seaton, Maria Uzor, Roxanne de Bastion & Leo Duncan feature on the new album from Lake Night | Out Now

Lake Night, the British electronic artist based between Tokyo and London today releases his anticipated debut album, Bound. Featuring a host of collaborators including Miles Cooper Seaton, Maria Uzor, Roxanne de Bastion and Leo Duncan, the album has received early support from the likes of CLASH Music, Complex, 15 Questions and more.

David Cox’s journey as Lake Night commenced at the end of 2018, when he decided to leave London and travel across Asia to write an album and reflect after the death of his father. Having read about the China Beach Surf Club during the late 60’s, his first port of call in Asia was Da Nang, Vietnam. Learning to surf each morning, then retreating to his makeshift suitcase studio when the sun became too punishing. Here, he began experimenting with analog synths, guitar pedals and strings. Setting his intention on creating something that wasn’t just the sum of his influences, but to instead craft something deeply personal.

As he continued his travels alone through Vietnam and Japan, the change of pace and culture shift left an indelible impression on him. From street musicians in Hoi-An, playing string instruments he’d never seen before, to traditional Gagaku concerts in Japan where his journey ended. The different sounds whilst new and inspiring, felt familiar in the rhythms and the discordant notes that would often punctuate the sublime melodies. The bending of notes, like the detuning of oscillators heightening the emotion. With imperfections embraced rather than quantised to a sterile uniformity.

Merging electronic polyrhythms with Sul Ponticello strings and ethereal vocal atmospherics, the debut album crafts a journey of loss, love, and unease in the modern age. On return to London, he reached out to vocalists to help him further express the themes and emotions that run through the album.

The first single taken from the album was unveiled earlier this year titled The Heart in Slow Motion, which showcased Lake Night’s ability to conjure highly emotive productions, weaving between electronica and techno with hints of modern contemporary. The second album single, Atlas, arrived in June which saw Lake Night collaborate with vocalist Maria Uzor who is best known for being a part of Post-Punk Dance Duo, Sink Ya Teeth.

Arguably one of the most enticing tracks from the album was released in July – a collaboration between Lake Night and the late Miles Cooper Seaton on lead single, Bound. The co-founding member of the celebrated experimental folk-rock band, Akron/Family, Miles Cooper Seaton tragically passed away earlier this year, leaving behind a legacy and catalogue of adored work spanning the realm of alternative music. Bound picked up swift support from key tastemaker Complex - “Intense and deeply affecting, and not just because of the tragic backstory, “Bound” hints at an album with the potential to be something truly special.”

The final single released before the full album came in the form of Hold Onto, which features the celestial vocals of Roxanne de Bastion. The ambient production and collaboration further piqued the interest of fans and likeminded artists, with CLASH Music citing – “The two conjure a cinematic aura, with 'Hold Onto' boasting a calming after-effect, one that lingers beyond the final note.”

With collaboration being a key ethos of Lake Night’s approach to production, the album also includes newly released tracks Dust Fall, Light Phase, Motion Decay, and Liebe Jetzt which features Leo Duncan from the rising Indie band Ten Fé, who have been supported by the likes of The Guardian and NME.
