The Technicolors bottle and serve rock in its purest, pulp and all

For those who prefer their juice with Heavy Pulp, rock band The Technicolors today release their fourth album — out now via SoundOn. Heavy Pulp is the type of record that doesn't cut one single corner. A band forged by a decade and a half out on the road with various projects (most recently BRONCHO and Beach Weather), The Technicolors took their time putting together a sonically massive album that drips with the confidence of knowing exactly who they are, in an ecosystem that’s once again primed for the dominance of rock music — Listen to Heavy Pulp.

Their first album since 2021, their time away was less of a hiatus and more of a chance to create very deliberately. Writing the record over the last two years, The Technicolors wanted to physically be in the room with the creatives they were working with. Heavy Pulp could not have taken shape without the production talent of GRAMMY-nominated Robert Adam Stevenson (Queens of the Stone Age, The Kills), BRONCHO’s Nathan Price on drums, and Madison Cunningham who is featured on “First Class to Nowhere.”

Frontman Brennan Smiley shared, “Our best work yet? Maybe the first time we stumbled into what felt like our own little world here and this record is our first exploration. Definitely the first time we leaned into the fact that we all love and are inspired by so much music in so many different directions. We weren’t afraid to let that show more vibrantly versus maybe tucking that part of us back in an attempt to make things feel ‘cohesive.’ We found a lot of identity in making this one and I hear a lot of space in it.”

He continued, “A lot of that had to do with Robert, he pulled a lot of that out of us and sort of shocked us out of the mindset we had been in since the last record. With our last album ‘Cinema Sublimina’ the whole point was to get deep in the weeds and sort of craft every sound and moment precisely and to edit it like it was a movie. Whereas for this one, we just wanted to keep as much pulp in the juice and not hide the blemishes and go with the most instant moments of excitement and trust those feelings and block everything else out. It’s 2025 and we’re tryin’ to stay pulpy out here.”

To celebrate the release of Heavy Pulp, The Technicolors will play three album release shows — in Los Angeles, their hometown of Phoenix, and New York City. The Phoenix show sold out weeks ahead of time. The shows will be supported by Jo Alice and JACO JACO. Tickets for all upcoming shows are available here.
