The.king.lost (band led by actor & singer Bert Verbeke) releases new album "Are You Facing History?'

After two years of writing in his home studio, Bert Verbeke decided to bring his music out into the world. During try-outs, his songs resonated deeply with audiences, finding their way under their skin. His solo work breathed calm and was characterized by sensitivity and spaciousness, perfectly suited to smaller stages and intimate living room concerts.

A first selection of songs was mixed and produced by Fredrik Vogsborg, the Norwegian producer known for his work with AURORA, Casiokids, and The Megaphonic Thrift. With that Scandinavian touch, the first finished tracks came to life.

The ambition to conquer larger stages brought Verbeke together with Michaël Degreef (Noémie Wolfs, Yong Yello) and Gerben Brys (HONEY, Ottla), with whom he began creating and recording again, once more alongside the trusted Norwegian producer. In their search for an even more layered live sound, Elisabeth De Loore (DE VICKY) completed the lineup. the.king.lost was born.

Following the earlier releases ‘Not Like Yesterday’, ‘Magnet, ‘Want’ and ‘Many Reasons’ we finally hear what this album sounds like: eclectic, narrative and dreamy. The debut album is released independently today and will be presented live on December 5 at Kavka, Antwerp.

ABOUT BERT VERBEKE

Bert Verbeke (born 1983, Ghent) is a multifaceted artist: actor, musician, and singer. He studied music education at Hogeschool Gent and musical theatre at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, graduating in 2009.

His résumé includes an impressive list of theatre and musical productions, such as Fiddler on the Roof, Ben X, Pippi Longstocking, Iedereen Beroemd and the large-scale musical spectacles 14-18 in which he played the lead role of Albert in both the original 2014 production and its 2024 revival. On television, he became a household name in Belgium for his five-year role as Bram Schepers in Thuis and appeared in guest roles in Witse, Zone Stad, Vermist, Assisen and Coppers. In 2013, he won the national TV music competition Stars for Life.

In recent years, Verbeke has wholeheartedly embraced his musical side. During the pandemic, he began writing songs in English and took his music to Norway, where his project the.king.lost began to take shape. He collaborated with producer Fredrik Vogsborg, known for his work with AURORA, Casiokids and The Megaphonic Thrift. Their first completed tracks carry a distinct Scandinavian touch. Verbeke’s solo work is contemplative and emotionally rich, influenced by the melancholic tones of artists like Nick Drake, Athlete, Ásgeir and Mercury Rev.
