Thistle Sifter releases 'To Kingdom Come'

Thistle Sifter is an ambient instrumental post-rock project by English musician Pete Barnes. To Kingdom Come is the second single from second album Circles, due for release on Friday 26th January 2024 both digitally and on vinyl. To Kingdom Come represents the primal pull Barnes felt to be in the UK, after being literally catapulted into disarray by a serious cycling accident in November 2020. A sense of dislocation and isolation grew due to being physically unable to travel to visit friends and family in England, which was made even more untenable by a worldwide pandemic.

Letting go of the past has made it harder to settle in the Netherlands. Accepting that the memories of your homeland are primarily based on youthful nostalgia became an important hurdle to overcome in Barnes’ recovery process. Feelings of being lost are recurring themes on Circles. Post concussion syndrome symptoms forced Barnes to live a secluded life out of necessity, and during this time music became the ideal therapy. The result is a powerful ambient instrumental record inspired by Brexit, Covid and the difficult, ongoing path to Barnes’ recovery.

The video for To Kingdom Come is the work of Dutch artist Nici Metselaar, who also designed the artwork for both albums and the live visuals for the upcoming concerts.
