Tristan returns with new single

Two and a half years following the release of her critically acclaimed EP, Tristan, nom de plume of Ghent-based artist Isolde Van den Bulcke, returns with new single 'Hellballad', a first taste of a bigger body of new work to be released in the next months.

Hellballad shows a musical side of Tristan we haven't heard before. After the ambient landscapes on first EP Illusje (2018), and the genre-defying mix of art-pop, jazz and electro on successor Delidomia (2019), Hellballad sounds exactly as its title suggests: an ink-black, frozen banger-ballad with a production that balances between heavy electronica in which drum computers go in overdrive and synths disguised as hunting horns compete against Isolde's vocals, in which she sounds thin and nostalgic in the verses, until an ice-cold dominatrix’ alter ego takes over in the choruses.

The song deals with the destructive side of a relationship: "The moment you realize you have put together an ideal version of yourself for your partner, but you slowly but surely have become completely alienated from yourself" says Van den Bulcke ("I transformed from a blushing girl into someone sinister - Like an uncorked bottle of wine that turned to vinegar").
