Trusselina (Hello Mary, Bleary Eyed) Introduces New Project Shares Double Single "Gastro / Trusselina Archimboldi"

Today, Mikaela Oppenheimer and Hayden McGarvey, formerly of Hello Mary and Bleary Eyed respectively, announced their new experimental-pop project, Trusselina. Alongside this, the Philadelphia-based duo shared a double single, Gastro / Trusselina Archimboldi, out on Jolt Music. Both tracks are a confident introduction to the project, moving between distinctive acoustic and electronic worlds, mixing slow, heavy stretches with bursts of rave-like energy.

Oppenheimer and McGarvey met on the road during a joint Hello Mary/Bleary Eyed US tour back in 2024. They were immediately drawn to each other’s openness to experimentation and off-kilter songwriting approaches. With Trusselina, the pair began collecting and arranging a hodgepodge of sounds and influences from resampled noise, field recordings, and acoustic instruments. Both tracks on the double single grew from this same method; the first samples recorded for “Gastro” came from McGarvey beatboxing in his bedroom, and the opening monologue from “Trusselina Archimboldi” is a passage from Nightwood by Djuna Barnes, read by Oppenheimer. “It describes this circus lady, Frau Mann, who aligns with our vision of Trusselina,” Oppenheimer says. “Hayden made the beat in the van when he was touring in France. He threw up in a McDonald's right after and ended up having food poisoning for 48 hours.”

The band also shared a music video for "Gastro" which was made by the duo from a collection of footage taken on phones and laptops and projected in various settings.
