Vancouver’s David Morin teases new album with vibrant neo-soul of “Flashing Lights”

Vancouver neo-soul artist David Morin, who has just dropped the slinky new single “Flashing Lights” as the second slice of his forthcoming new album Flow State.

A fusion of sultry soul and funk vibes, the productions’ shimmering chords gorgeously offset with the lively drums and David’s warm vocal tones. Delivering romantic one-liners about the joys of discovering love again, the accompanying visuals (produced in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico) elevate the lyrics and capture the buoyant energy an intoxicating new love can bring.

Métis and Indonesian by heritage, Morin grew up on Canada’s West coast in Surrey, B.C. His mother is a singer and songwriter, and he started singing and playing guitar as a kid, joining a church music group and starting a band after discovering synths and beats in his high school music room. He kept learning and growing, busking and hitting open mic nights in Vancouver clubs.

Cutting his teeth by busking on the streets of Vancouver, David transferred the charisma and skills he learnt from turning strangers into fans, to performances with a trained live band and opening slots for the likes of Snoop Dogg, Hiatus Kaiyote and Musiq Soulchild. Taking inspiration from multiple genres, David’s hints toward disco and retro pop add a playful flavour to his contemporary sound, whilst maintaining a signature aesthetic that’s as accessible as it is seductive – something he looks to explore further with the upcoming Flow State record.
