Verve Remixed Continues Year of Nina Celebration with 2nd Installment: “Four Women – DESIREE Remix.”

Verve Remixed continues its Year of Nina celebration with its second installment: “Four Women – DESIREE Remix.”

For this new remix, DESIREE reimagines one of Nina Simone’s most powerful recordings, “Four Women.” Originally released in 1966, the track journeys through layered narratives of Black womanhood, illuminating the intersections of race, gender, class, and colorism during the Civil Rights era.

A socially conscious and engaged artist, DESIREE uses her voice to raise awareness around diversity. She is driven by a deep yearning to dig for electronica in its many forms, is constantly channeling her broad knowledge and passion into unforgettable performances. DESIREE amplifies Simone’s message and themes while reframing this song within a contemporary sonic landscape.

“There are songs that already say everything. 'Four Women' is one of them. The deeper I got into Nina Simone's world, the more I felt it speaking directly to me. When I came to make this remix, I didn't want to change what it meant. I just wanted to bring it somewhere new, somewhere you could move to it, lose yourself in it, and still feel every word,” says DESIREE.

This year marks Verve’s 70th anniversary, honoring the label’s enduring influence on music and culture. Solomun’s remix launches a year-long Nina Simone series, with new installments arriving monthly through the fall. Upcoming contributors include Mochakk, DESIREE, Austin Millz, dublon, Supershy, Antdot, and more — each bringing their own interpretation to Nina Simone’s legendary recordings.

DESIREE’s genre-defying sound has been instrumental in expanding Afro-house’s reach beyond its roots. Named as DJ Mag’s Future Star in 2023, and having already been platformed by the likes of Mixmag, OkayAfrica, Rolling Stone Africa, 10 Mag, Schon!, Numero, Glamcult, GQ South Africa and other titles across the music, culture and style landscape, she stands at the forefront of electronic music’s evolution, using her platform to explore identity, empowerment, and the rich cultural heritage of South Africa. She has also appeared on BBC Radio 1’s iconic Essential Mix series, recorded an epic Boiler Room set and picked up a residency with leading online radio broadcaster, Rinse FM. Her work not only resonates on international stages but also champions diversity and inclusion through her label MMINO, which nurtures emerging South African talent. With a deep-rooted connection to her personal journey and cultural heritage, DESIREE continues to shape the future of electronic music with authenticity, purpose, and global resonance.

Her distinctive sound has led to bookings at some of the world’s most influential clubs and festivals, including a scintillating debut at Coachella in 2025 where she performed across both weekends. That same year saw her bring her unique energy to Panorama Bar as part of Innervisions’ 20th anniversary celebrations, alongside a headline appearance on the awe-inspiring Mayan Warrior at Burning Man - one of the playa’s most iconic sound systems. Elsewhere, Desiree’s inimitable style has lit up dance floors from DC-10 and Hï in Ibiza to fabric, Glastonbury, Cercle, DGTL, Lost Village and many more.

A formidable force, whose spirit embodies the soul and energy of her home nation, DESIREE is primed to keep soaring to the highest heights.
