Vreid - New album “The Skies Turn Black” set for release on March 6th 2026 | First single & video out now
Five years since their last release, Norwegian metal veterans Vreid return with The Skies Turn Black, a record that pushes their signature Sognametal to new heights. Blending 70s rock, 80s thrash and Nordic blackness, the band captures the essence of their 30-year journey while sounding more vital than ever.
The first single “From These Woods” (out December 2025) is a towering statement of intent. The album also features “Kraken”, written – please keep this strictly confidential for now as it's not announced yet! – as the official soundtrack for the movie blockbuster Kraken, premiering in Norwegian cinemas in February 2026 with international releases throughout the year. The film has already been sold to over 35 markets, including North and Latin America, Germany, France and Spain. The song’s release will include a cinematic music video that captures the movie’s epic scope.
Another highlight on the album and an upcoming single is the haunting “Loving the Dead”, featuring Djerv, an eight-minute journey through a dark, Lynch-inspired dream world. The striking hand-drawn artwork by Kim Holm completes the vision, bringing the album’s atmosphere to life in a raw and human way.
The Skies Turn Black will be followed by a massive European tour in spring 2026 together with Hypocrisy, Abbath and Vomitory, including stops in Berlin, Copenhagen, Gothenburg, Stockholm, Helsinki, Paris, Manchester and London’s Incineration Festival. More than three decades in, Vreid’s fire still burns bright, and this might be their most ambitious album yet.
