Welsh glam-pop renegade Catty releases new EP 'Bracing For Impact'. Out TODAY 24 October via AWAL

Welsh pop renegade CATTY today releases her highly anticipated new EP 'Bracing For Impact' via AWAL, marked today by the release of previously unheard full-throttle title track 'Bracing For Impact' and the EP's sweeping closer 'Man on the Run'. CATTY headlines a sold-out show at Colours Hoxton in London on 30th October, before supporting Beth McCarthy on a UK tour throughout November.

A moment of total surrender, the closing track and EP’s focus single ‘Man on the Run’ delivers the record’s most grand, open-hearted moment - a paean to love you can’t leave behind. Building through reverb-soaked guitars and a simple drumbeat, CATTY’s unguarded vocal shines, clawing at the edge of collapse but refusing to go quietly: “Say that I don’t need you / But still love you in secret / I don’t need to know your reasons / I won’t hate you for leaving / But if you do, I’m going too.”

On the song's release, CATTY said:

"Man on the Run was written when I was f*cking knackered. I genuinely couldn’t tell my arse from my elbow. I kept singing things into my phone but it all sounded awful to me, music wasn’t making any sense. It’s the first time I've ever left a writing session and said “I don’t think I can write today.” I cried in the studio and I cried on the way home. Then my co-writers, Nathan and Juliette messaged me that evening with a voice note we had recorded that day and it was literally the verse, pre and chorus of Man on the Run and they basically just pulled me out of my self-deprecation and made us finish it. Now it’s my favourite song, it’s the purest song on there I think."

Following last year's widely praised 'Healing Out Of Spite' - new six track EP 'Bracing For Impact' marks a vital moment in 2025 pop. Across the track list, CATTY is devastating and funny in equal measure, conjuring the rushes and wreckages of her world in vivid, unruly technicolour. Sonically, the EP is feverish collision of explosive pop, alt-rock bite and gothic glamour; chaos carefully orchestrated, all delivered with her trademark theatrical flair and an unflinching sense of self.

Each previously released taste of the EP has felt like a stop on a spellbinding tour through pop’s great lineage; from the searing drama of glam-rock rush 'Joyride'; the Gaga-sized theatre of 'Prized Possession' and the MUNA-esque rush of '4am (Back in His Bed)' to the devotional shimmer of 'Make You Love Me' and the EP's hook-slinging title track - CATTY's ode to owning your own chaos.

What makes CATTY stand apart is how she threads these references through stories of queer love and discovery, of desire, of pain and ultimately, resilience. Not just a nod to queer life, but a total embodiment - capturing both the euphoria and the bruises of lesbian experience, and spinning them into something truly singular.

CATTY adds:

"I think I lived a year of my life trying to protect myself so much that I forgot to live. And this entire EP is basically me saying yeah, I'm shit scared of failing, I'm shit scared of getting hurt, I'm shit scared of no happy ending but I do owe myself a life. Bracing For Impact is basically me saying I'm here, I know who I am, I've been in this industry for ten years, put me on your stages! I’ll sing my little heart out on them and you will see it drip from my sleeve. It’s weird not to be writing break up songs right now, I really felt like that was my forte so if anyone wants me to slag off their boyfriend I am available to write for other people and I would enjoy that."

With the release of 'Bracing For Impact', CATTY is taking another major step forward to becoming Wales’ next great pop star.

Proudly Welsh, with her fans affectionately known as ‘the coven,’ CATTY casts her songs like spells - part myth, part confession. Steeped in Welsh folklore and shaped by a lifetime of doomed crushes, she writes with a flair for the dramatic and a refusal to soften her edges. “Being Welsh seeps through my veins – it feels like a punch in the gut when people don’t know I’m Welsh,” she says. “I’m just writing about my life and I happen to be a massive lesbian. If I didn’t say ‘she’ in my songs, I wouldn’t be writing honest music – and what’s the point in that?”

Hailing from the port town of Caernarfon in Wales, and now based in London, CATTY’s star has been on a fast and uncompromising rise over the past 12 months. Her 2024 debut EP ‘Healing Out Of Spite’ earned praise from NME (Breakout), Popjustice (Twenty Quid Music Prize nomination), Dork (Digital Cover), CLASH (Next Wave), Official Charts (One To Watch), DIY (Get To Know), and more - while BBC Radio 1’s Jodie Bryant, Mollie King and Maia Beth have been unwavering champions.

In 2024, CATTY sold out her debut headline show in 15 minutes, supported Dylan and Beth McCarthy on tour, and even opened for Stevie Nicks at BST Hyde Park, closing out the year by headlining a sold out show at London's Lafayette.

This year, CATTY has performed at both Birmingham Pride and London Pride, stormed Latitude Festival with one of the most captivating sets of the weekend, as well as playing sets at the Women's Rugby World Cup, Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg and Sŵn Festival in Cardiff.
