White Elephant (Crazy P + Smith & Mudd Members) Release Debut Album "World Elephant Day", Out Now
Today, White Elephant proudly release their debut album World Elephant Day via Walk Don’t Walk, in association with !K7. Alongside the album, the band unveil a live performance video for the focus track “Breathe,” which is also available as a free download on Bandcamp.
The project brings together Chris “Hot Toddy” Todd and Jim “Ron Basejam” Baron of Crazy P with Ben “BJ” Smith of Smith & Mudd. The band began unintentionally, during a weekend with no plan beyond experimenting in Crazy P’s Nottingham studio. What emerged was an unexpected synergy that grew, slowly and naturally, into a body of work shaped by trust, freedom and time.

World Elephant Day blends Crazy P’s established dancefloor sensibility with more introspective songwriting and detailed instrumental arrangements. Across the record, the trio move fluidly between styles, from the disco-leaning pulse and the 80s-referencing drive to the stripped-back textures. Though some tracks were written over a decade ago, and others far more recently, the album coheres through chemistry rather than genre, the sound of three musicians weaving instinctively around each other.
“We didn’t really know what we were,” remembers Chris. “We didn’t have a plan at all. The first few things we wrote were just us relying on what we did elsewhere... but after a few days messing around, something clicked. We found a synergy, if that’s not too grand a word for it.” That synergy between Chris Todd, Jim Baron and Ben Smith is what became White Elephant.
