Wombo Share New Single "Below the House" Out Now on Fire Talk
Last year, Louisville Kentucky based trio Wombo released their EP Keesh Mountain on Fire Talk Records. Today the band shares their new single “Below The House.”
The band says “Below the House” is about leaving things buried for the best sometimes when there’s nothing you could gain from trying to make sense of them. The song was loosely based on a nightmareish type dream I had so the video kind of ties into that, since we wanted to create a sort of soundscape that emanates that.” “Below The House'' follows “One of These” that BrooklynVegan calls “an alluring mix of whispery vocals and winsome melodies set against a fuzzed out indie rock backing.”

“Below the House” was inspired by the folklore of Chadwick’s unconsciousness, and is about the intangible ties that ground us in our surroundings. Although the band was inspired by the rust belt and agricultural landscapes that permeate the background of their hometown of Louisville throughout the recording process, Wombo’s music is also imbued with the ephemeral quality of being shaken awake from a dream. There’s unassuming clues and hidden messages scattered across the album, where references to doors, windows and walls play with the idea that while scenery can change, home remains a grounding point. Tracing out melodies before incorporating vocals, bits and pieces of lyrics are gradually assembled creating a framework that transcends a simple bassline or guitar part, Wombo weave together a tapestry of sound that’s both intoxicating and effortless, where one minute it’s all deadpan post-punk energy, and the next Stereolab on a mountain top. The music functions as their own localized language that feels uniquely out-of-body.
Last year, Wombo set out on tour with labelmates Mamalarky and PACKS as well as several dates with SASAMI and one with Smut with notable stops at Baby's All Right in New York and The Empty Bottle in Chicago. Now they are starting off their 2022 tour by supporting Cola at Sleeping Village in Chicago and then heading to SXSW and dates with Bambara, Naked Giants and Ed Schrader's Music Beat.
