Young Prisms Return with First Music In A Decade, Hear "Yourside"

Today Young Prisms announce their signing to Fire Talk with new single "Yourside", premiered today on Brooklyn Vegan. The San Francisco band’s first music in nearly a decade, “Yourside”, stays true to the band’s “shadowy, reverb-smothered guitar rock” (Pitchfork) and “haunting romanticism” (Consequence of Sound). A step forward from the early oughts shoegaze that put the band on the map. Vocalist Stefanie Hodapp’s vocals anchor the frequencies to create something both alluring and uplifting. Recorded in their home town of San Francisco with production from Shaun Durkan (Weekend/Soft Kill) and mastered by Heba Kadry the new material marks a sea change for a band who's found a new stride creatively with a plethora of life changes (motherhood, aging) to draw from.

Refining the band's definitive ethereal sonic landscapes, "Yourside" showcases some of these collected experiences and is an emotional foray into something both nostalgic and lingering. Speaking about the track the band says "Yourside is written through the perspective of someone comforting a grieving soul who has experienced a devastating loss and letting them know that they're supported."

Young Prisms was formed in San Francisco in the late 2000s by life-long friends Matt Allen and Giovanni Betteo alongside Stefanie Hodapp and Brooklyn- based drummer Jordan Silbert. The group plays a fiercely loud and sneakily melodic brand of shoegaze that also traces along the edges of noise pop scrappiness and neo-psych dreaminess. In late 2009, Mexican Summer put out a self-titled 12” EP by the band, which led to a batch of split 7" singles in 2010 with Small Black (on Big Love Records from Japan), Weekend (on Transparent from the U.K.), and Mathemagic (on Atelier Ciseaux from France). In 2010 Young Prisms released their debut album 'Friends for Now' on Kanine Records, which was followed by second full-length 'In Between' in 2012. Ten years after releasing their debut LP and after an extended hiatus, Young Prisms are back with new material to be released on Fire Talk.
