40 WATT SUN have today streamed their new album, Wider than the Sky, in full, via Noisey. The album is released tomorrow, October 14, via the band's own Radiance Records label. Stream Wider than the Sky via Noisey here.

Noisey describe the album as "a skillful continuation of their sound, although one that stylistically has less in common with the heavy side of music and more with the expansive side." Accompanying the stream is an interview with Patrick Walker.

Wider than the Sky is the follow up to 2011's The Inside Room. Once again, the album was self-produced by the band, as the new songs were recorded over five days at Giant Wafer Studios, isolated deep in the heart of the mid-Wales countryside. In a move intended to regain autonomy over their own recordings and future plans as a band, 40 WATT SUN have elected to self release the album via their own label, Radiance Records.

Eschewing the solidifying wall of sound that characterised their debut, 40 WATT SUN continue to progressively explore and broaden their sonic palette. As expected, Patrick’s lyrics, strung with aching introspection and pained nostalgia, hang on his characteristic and poignant vocals and delicate guitar lines, with Christian Leitch’s sensitive and nuanced drum-work, and William Spong’s thoughtful bass guitar gently revealing themselves in the folds of the songs.

Artwork for the release has been created by Rebecca Freeman, a Falmouth-based, mixed media artist. 40 WATT SUN will be playing live shows in support of the album release:

  • 15/10/2016 - UT Connewitz, Leipzig, DE
  • 19/10/2016 - The Black Heart, London, UK
  • 26/11/2016 - Korjaamo, Helsinki, FI
