Blaudzun is set to release his new single ‘Real Hero’ today! The song is an ode to lust for life and to the people who fight for life. It also is an ode to everyday heroes that make our lives a bit more beautiful and worthwhile.
At the same time, Real Hero is a very personal song for Blaudzun: “I wrote the song with the severely ill son of one of my best friends in mind. It has become a tribute to him, to his sister and his parents. At the time I wrote ‘Real Hero’ we were still hopeful that he would overcome the disease, but sadly things turned out differently. Last November, I sang a stripped-down version of the song at his funeral.”
‘Real Hero’ was literally created in a matter of minutes: “as if I were just plucking the lyrics and melody out of the blue and only having to record it. Every now and then something like that happens, these are very special moments for a songwriter.”
The video for ‘Real Hero’ features a young man is dancing and frolicking through a big city. He's a superhero in disguise. Everywhere he passes, he changes people's eyes and minds. By means of his dancing and the pistol gesture that he makes with his hands and with which he fires kisses at passers-by. In all reflections (buildings, bus shelters, mirrors, shop windows) the viewer continually sees the reflection of the young man in a superhero suit. The final encounter with a despondent and gloomy passerby ends in a 'Mexican stand-off' with a special ending.
