Australian heavyweight Hydraulix connects with Denver-based low-end maestro for their new collab, a wonky experimental bass single steeped in their shared love for UK-soaked influences.

Sydney’s Hydraulix and Denver-based Chef Boyarbeatz connect on “RUDEBOi,” a deep dubstep hybrid that lands squarely between their singular strains of experimental bass. Out December 12th on Bassrush Records, the collaboration distills the pair’s shared affinity for warped low-end engineering, stitching grime-soaked textures, UK bass tension, and their respective foundations in 140 and breaks into a track that coils and uncoils with intentional disorder.

“RUDEBOi” unfolds like a pressure chamber on the brink of bursting—radar-blip motifs skitter across the stereo field, breakbeats slice with mechanical precision, and guttural call-and-response patterns rise from the subfloor. Its groove is deceptively elastic, constantly shifting form without losing the snarling character implied by its namesake. The result sits in the overlap of Hydraulix’s unpredictable low-end mutations and Chef’s UK-influenced wonk, a rare fusion that foregrounds both artists’ experimental instincts while carving out a pocket all its own.

Explaining how the track finds the middleground between their boundary-pushing sounds, Hydraulix says, “I’ve always loved Chef’s sound, so finding the track where both our styles really met in the middle was a special moment. This one feels like us. And to release it with Bassrush is really something special.”

Touching on how the single has been a weapon from his sets as of late, Chefboyarbeatz says, “This one has been a staple in my sets since it was finished. I have really enjoyed playing it out and I’m happy it found a home with Bassrush!”

The single arrives amid a period of steady acceleration for both producers. Hydraulix remains one of Australia’s most versatile bass exports, celebrated for the genre-blurring lens of his debut album ‘Imposter Syndrome’ and a wide-ranging catalog of collaborations spanning Hekler, ATLiens, Leotrix, and many more. His sound—equal parts nostalgic and volatile—has earned support from Skrillex, Four Tet, Peggy Gou, Zeds Dead, and Excision, with a global touring footprint across North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. “RUDEBOi” also marks a return to Bassrush following his 2022 appearance on ‘The Prophecy: Volume 6’ with “Brain Damage” alongside SUAHN, reaffirming his long-standing relationship with the imprint’s forward-facing bass identity.

Chef Boyarbeatz enters the release from a complementary trajectory. The Denver transplant has reshaped the American underground with a style steeped in heavy breaks, dubstep fundamentals, and UK lineage, earning recognition from both legacy tastemakers and the new guard. His recent output for Bassrush—including ‘Squidward’s Revenge’ and his collaborative ‘Frontin’’ two-tracker with MYTHM—has expanded his experimental narrative while garnering co-signs from Skream, Zeds Dead, Of The Trees, and Ternion Sound. Parallel to his studio success, Chef is in the midst of his most ambitious headline tour yet, ‘The Last Recipe,’ hitting venues such as The Echo, Ogden Theatre, Vulcan Gas Co, Smoke & Mirrors, Arora, Quart Yard, Midway, The Office, and Turntable.

“RUDEBOi” captures the long-simmering creative dialogue between the two producers—an idea that finally locked into place when they found a shared center of gravity. The track’s balance of grime influence, warped bass phrasing, and leftfield rhythmic interplay positions it as a standout moment within Bassrush’s catalog of experimental dubstep.

Hydraulix and Chef Boyarbeatz’s new single “RUDEBOi” is available on all platforms via Bassrush Records.
