In a world where all data and (fake?) facts are directly available, I feel the urge, the need to encounter the mystery: Respect and a deep bow for the beauty of the unknown, the liberating joy of childish naivity, the white blanket of serenity, the total absence and surrender to the all-embracing.

The music is complex and at the same time surprisingly simple, a balance I tried to keep during the whole composing process. The musicians have awakened the scores with a sense of masterful craftsmanship and personal interpretations. And this is why I do this: after months of research in the deepness of my soul, the music comes alive through the first breath in the musical parts; Ultimate beauty.

For the instrumentation, I got inspired by the massive sound of three tenor saxophones, who can sound both aggressive and soothing, or freely improvising and obligatory classical together. I complete them with trumpet and bass trombone, the two extremes of the brass sound gamma. I was already confident with the sound of the piano and double bass since the beginning, so they make the structure, the foundation on which I built the compositions.

I invite you to get lost with me in my phantasy world where surprises are never far away.

Jef Neve.

PRESS QUOTE
"[...] a captivating concert that was rightly rewarded with a standing ovation. Jef Neve proves time and again how versatile and inventive he is by leading jazz in inventive, layered compositions and sublime arrangements, and leaving space for gossamer solos and clever interaction. Truly world class.
As far as we're concerned, 'Mysterium' deserves the highest award, worthy of a Grammy Award".

- Bernard Lefèvre for Jazz'halo (Klara in deSingel première)
