Bassrush Records turns up the heat with “HARDEST MFS,” an explosive genre-bending anthem from Maryland’s LAYZ and Texas-based RZRKT. Out March 14, this relentless collaboration blurs the lines between dubstep and hard techno, engineered to shake festival grounds and underground clubs alike.
Following the success of their previous joint effort “INCOMING” from LAYZ’s ‘EYE OF THE STORM’ EP—championed live by heavyweights like Excision, Wooli, and Sullivan King—the duo returns with a sequel that’s more ferocious and unpredictable. “HARDEST MFS” wastes no time at immersing listeners in a sprawling, cinematic intro layered with orchestral textures and atmospheric tension. Just when the anticipation peaks, the track detonates into a punishing dubstep drop, punctuated by snarling sawtooth leads and chest-rattling bass. Midway through, LAYZ and RZRKT flip the script with a jaw-dropping switch into hard techno territory, driven by a pulsating psytrance undercurrent that showcases their boundary-pushing production prowess.
Shedding light on the new collab, LAYZ explains: “‘HARDEST MFS’ has been one of the biggest highlights of my sets, and every time I’ve played it out, the energy in the crowd has been insane! This song is a sequel to RZRKT and my last release, ‘INCOMING,’ and we leveled it up with a long cinematic intro, heavy-hitting dubstep, and showcasing our diversity with techno. The energy in this track is next level, and I can’t wait for fans to experience it in their own way—whether it’s in a festival crowd or blasting in their car or headphones!”
Keeping things short and sweet, RZRKT introduces the track with a fitting one-liner: “We present to you the hardest song we’ve ever done.”
For LAYZ, “HARDEST MFS” marks another milestone in an unstoppable ascent. Coming off a landmark year that included a 26-date headline tour and standout performances at global festivals like EDC Las Vegas and Lost Lands, her brand of raw, high-energy dubstep has earned her releases on tastemaker labels such as Monstercat, Subsidia, and Disciple Round Table. Her momentum is palpable—and she’s just getting started.
RZRKT, meanwhile, brings his signature fusion of dark melodies and heavyweight bass to the table, still riding high off his recent 5-track ‘RUINS’ EP on Bassrush Records. With media support from outlets like Dubstep FBI and This Song Slaps, and currently supporting Sullivan King on the ‘Chaos Will Bring Peace’ U.S. tour, RZRKT continues to prove why he’s a force to watch in the bass scene.
“HARDEST MFS” embodies the collision of LAYZ’s aggressive dubstep roots and RZRKT’s genre-fluid experimentation, resulting in a track that’s as feral as it is meticulously crafted. Whether it means head-banging at the rail or getting lost wearing headphones, this release is a visceral reminder of why Bassrush Records remains at the forefront of bass music’s evolution.
