Mogwai today return with their new single God Gets You Back and announce a huge 2025 world tour. It is the first new music from Mogwai in 2024, with more to come, and follows the announcement and premiere of Mogwai: If The Stars Had A Sound — a first documentary about the band directed by longtime collaborator Antony Crook — and a sold out first band-curated festival, Big City, which took place in their hometown of Glasgow this summer. God Gets You Back arrives with a video directed and created by Hand Held Cine Club (Justin and James Lockey).

God Gets You Back is a well-calibrated return, a song that forgoes resting on their laurels after the success of 2021’s official UK #1 album, As The Love Continues. Driven by an arpeggiated synth, God Gets You Back builds gracefully, with drummer Martin Bulloch ensuring the track continues to move forward with purpose. Barry Burns decided the song “needed some melody or vocals, but I couldn't come up with the lyrics so I asked my 7 year old daughter to make some up, and she did and I sang them". The song feels like a natural culmination of their considered work on celebrated soundtracks for Zidane: a 21st Century Portrait, ZeroZeroZero and Les Revenants and the heft of As The Love Continues.

The 2025 tour takes in dates in Asia and North America, as well as a full UK/EU. Tickets for the tour are set to go on sale via a presale at 10AM on 18 September, with a venue presale at 10 AM on 19 September and general sale available at 10 AM on 20 September. Mogwai are proud to be partnering with War Child throughout the tour, where a £1/€1/$1 charitable contribution will be made from every ticket sold.

On the world tour, Mogwai’s Stuart Braithwaite says, “we are immensely excited about heading out on our first worldwide tour since the pandemic. We’re going to some brilliant places and can’t wait to perform our new songs.”

ABOUT MOGWAI

Mogwai formed in 1995 in Glasgow. The band consists of Stuart Braithwaite (guitar, vocals), Barry Burns (guitar, piano, synthesizer, vocals), Dominic Aitchison (bass guitar) and Martin Bulloch (drums). Since 1997, the band have released ten studio albums, with their most recent, 2021’s As The Love Continues, being a commercial and critical success, reaching number 1 on the Official UK Album Charts, amassing a Mercury Prize nomination and winning the Scottish Album of the Year award. The band have also released multiple EPs and contributed the score to projects for Amazon Prime and Apple TV+.

Mogwai established the Glasgow-based independent record label Rock Action Records in 1996. Originally set up to allow the band to release their own music, the label has grown from its DIY origins of the mid-1990’s Glasgow scene to an internationally renowned and distributed label that after 25 years retains the ethos and independent spirit that defines Mogwai as a band.

Rock Action has been responsible for releasing music from a diverse range of artists both local to Glasgow and internationally, counting many critically acclaimed albums in its catalogue. The label’s recent output includes music from iconic Scottish artists Arab Strap, The Twilight Sad, Kathryn Joseph plus Mogwai themselves, alongside vital new artists Cloth, bdrmm and many more
