British post-punk band Cucamaras announce their new EP Buck Rogers Time, which will be released on 19 May via EXAG Records. The EP was recorded at Young Thugs Studios in York with producer Jonny Hooker. The new single Cotton Wool is out now.
Nottingham's hottest prospects, formed of Joshua Hart (guitar/vocals), Olly Bowley (guitar/vocals), Dan McGrathand (bass) and Joe Newton (drums), have been making waves with their definitive, genre-spanning sound that incorporates elements of post-punk, indie and art pop to create something remarkable and unique.
“Buck Rogers Time is a phrase that I believe is used in American prisons; which refers to a prison sentence so long that you’ll never get out. The theme of being stuck in purgatory, or longing for more is one that has featured quite a lot in our music, right from our early stuff.” Joshua Hart explains. “The name of the EP doesn’t necessarily encapsulate pessimism though, our own attachment to the name is symbiotic with the urgency and feel of the music on the EP, and also where we’re at as a band right now. Everything from Olly’s “the time is now” lyrics in Bleachers Yard to our personal belief that we’re in the right place, at the right time, with the music on this record. So that’s why it’s called Buck Rogers Time.”
Cotton Wool unravels to reveal another layer of the Nottingham four-piece’s sound, as the band explore internal heartache through their most ambitious, yet melodic, soundscape to date. Speaking about the track vocalist and guitarist Olly Bowley says “Cotton Wool is a story of admiration, whilst feeling like you’re in someone’s shadow. There’s this clumsy individual who’s running into all sorts of problems, whilst the other is sleeping peacefully - the former isn’t ready to lose that persons influence on their life.” Watch the video below. The band previously released the single Porcelain from the EP.
Last year, the band already toured Europe with festival shows at Bruis Festival, Lokerse Feesten and Left Of The Dial, and they already caught the eye of BBC Introducing, NME's Best New Bands and Clash. In May they play at The Great Escape, followed by these shows in Belgium and The Netherlands:
- 25 mei - De Casino, Sint Niklaas
- 26 mei - Sniester Festival, Den Haag
