Alex Amor announces debut album 'Heavenly Bodies' out 21 August via VERO Music, new single 'Icarus' out today

Scottish-raised singer-songwriter Alex Amor today announces her debut album 'Heavenly Bodies' will be released on 21st August via New York independent label VERO Music. To mark the announcement, today Amor releases new single 'Icarus' - ahead of performances at The Great Escape Festival in Brighton this Friday (15th May), and Footsteps Festival in London on 21st May.

Led by reverb-soaked drums and slow-burning, guitar-driven arrangements, 'Icarus' moves with a dreamlike unease, as Amor’s radiant unflinching vocal cuts through the haze at its centre - capturing the helplessness of watching someone disappear into themselves.

Speaking on the song, Alex Amor said:

"Icarus was inspired by my love of Greek mythology, and born from accumulated frustration in my personal life. I’ve watched too many men I love - friends, family, partners - struggle with addiction and self destruction over the years. There’s something so innately human in the urge to escape: to outrun the mundanity of everyday life and the discomfort of being yourself. That’s what drew me to the myth of Icarus.

"This song tells that story from the sidelines, as a witness to the chaos, and feeling powerless in that position. It’s about loving someone who is chasing their own oblivion, and realising that no matter how much you care, you can’t save someone who doesn’t want to save themselves. Sometimes love isn’t enough. Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is to walk away, and allow someone to make their own mistakes so they can find their way back to the shore, without you."

Alex Amor's debut album 'Heavenly Bodies' expands on these themes, weaving together celestial imagery, spirituality, and the vast emotional terrain of human connection. The album reflects Amor’s fascination with cosmic symbolism and the belief that personal experiences mirror the rhythms of the universe.

Pairing incisive, diaristic lyricism with layered, hypnotic production, the album marks a clear evolution from the raw indie charge of her earlier work. Sitting somewhere between the introspective pull of Samia and the hazy melodic sensibility of Clairo's Sling era, with further references ranging from Beach House to Cigarettes After Sex, Amor balances vulnerability with control, allowing intimate confessions to unfold within shimmering guitars, floating synths and slow-blooming choruses.

Written and recorded between London and Glasgow, the album was made alongside her close-knit "holy trinity" of collaborators - Peter Brien (Kojaque, Kean Kavanagh), Baz Kaye (The Blessed Madonna, Obongjayar) and Karma Kid (Jessie Ware, Jalen Ngonda) - all three helping to shape her expansive and transportive sound. 'Heavenly Bodies' was mixed by Matthew Neighbour (Role Model, Lord Huron) and mastered by Katie Tavini.

New single 'Icarus' signals the arrival of a bold and fully realised artistic voice - one unafraid to explore the space between earthly emotion and something far more infinite.

To date Alex Amor has released three EPs: her debut ‘Love Language’ in 2021 and 'The Art Of Letting Go' in 2022 and 'Super Sonic' in 2023. Her music has garnered over 7 million streams and earned widespread support across radio and press: BBC Radio 1 (Jack Saunders, Sian Eleri), The Line of Best Fit, DIY Magazine, CLASH Magazine, Dork Magazine, Wonderland, Notion, 1883 Magazine, The Skinny, Ones To Watch, The Sunday Mail and The Scotsman.

Previously Alex has performed at festivals including TRNSMT, The Great Escape, Liverpool Sound City, Live at Leeds and Dot To Dot alongside extensive UK touring and dates with Good Neighbours, Liang Lawrence, Gretta Ray, Swim Deep, VLURE, amongst others.

Alex Amor's debut album will be released 21st August via VERO Music. New single 'Icarus' is out now.
