Arlo unveils anthemic new single “Glacier,” vocal debut + 2027 tour dates

Los Angeles-based producer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist ARLO will release his new single “Glacier” on November 6. As his first release featuring his own vocals, the track pairs orchestral-inspired production with lyrics that imagine a flight through glaciers at sunset. It continues the turn toward nature that shaped October’s “Where Have I Been” and offers a glimpse of his forthcoming sophomore album, due in 2027.

“Glacier” began in 2023 as a simple experiment. ARLO wanted to see whether he could use orchestral sounds to build an electronic drop. Without access to live orchestral musicians, he recreated those tones with synthesizers, then ran the results through Quanta, chopping the sounds into patterns that became the track’s foundation. The instrumental felt promising, but the lyrics weren’t coming as easily. Everything he wrote leaned sadder than he wanted for the record. He named the beat “Glacier” and put it aside.

The demo continued to influence his work, helping inspire the earlier single “When Will You Fall Into My Arms.” When ARLO rediscovered it this year, he felt ready to finish it. His production skills had developed, and he’d begun finding new subjects to write about beyond the relationships that informed much of his earlier music.

“I started writing lots more music about nature,” he explains. “I revisited the idea with a new perspective and wrote the lyrics about metaphorically flying through glaciers melting during a beautiful sunset. Obviously nobody could fly through all of these places at once, so I imagined my soul or spirit flying through these places.”

His own voice, processed through a vocoder, carries that imagined journey. The orchestral textures and chopped production give the song its scale, while the lyrics leave room for the solitude of the landscape he’s describing.

“It’s a simple song appreciating the grandness and beauty of glaciers and nature as a whole,” ARLO says. “There is also a tinge of sadness and loneliness because glaciers, although they can be beautiful, are a cold and lonely place.”

Born Dillon Scheel, ARLO grew up in Palo Alto before studying jazz guitar at Berklee College of Music. Stevie Wonder and Earth, Wind & Fire were formative influences, while seeing Kaytranada at Outside Lands helped him recognize how the chords and melodies he loved could work on a dancefloor. His time outdoors has become another source of inspiration, from trips to the California coast to snowboarding and visits to Lake Tahoe.

That connection has increasingly shaped his songwriting. On “Where Have I Been,” he explored the relief of stepping away from everyday distractions and accepting that some questions don’t need immediate answers. “Glacier” follows that instinct, building a song around an imagined place and the feelings it brings up.

The decision to sing on the record also reflects changes in ARLO’s live show. Alongside bringing guest vocalists onstage, he’s begun stepping behind the microphone himself. Recent headline performances have seen fans singing along to his originals, encouraging him to build more of the set around his own material.

ARLO’s upcoming plans include a January ski and après tour, followed by 11 North American support dates with Elderbrook in March and April, concluding at Red Rocks Amphitheatre on April 3. More new music will follow ahead of his sophomore album in 2027.
