Áslaug shares debut EP 'Áslaug'

Artist and songwriter Áslaug came into view just a few months ago, but the Icelandic-Dutch singer has been working on her debut for years. Inspired by artists such as The Japanese House, HAIM and Lykke Li, Áslaug introduces her own sound; serious subjects combined with dreamy synth pop filled with catchy hooks.

Multi-talent Áslaug also managed to translate the personal stories of her debut EP into a short film. The subjects of her songs and her heritage are visualised in this, they tell different stories about how she has dealt with love and relationships over the past years. To celebrate the release of her debut EP, the film was exclusively premiered via YouTube this morning.

Áslaug: “I’m quite a reflective person and spend a lot of time (over)thinking. Trying to see patterns within my own behaviour, being critical of the choices I’ve made in the past and trying to see and be understanding of how other people’s history shape the decisions they make within their own lives, even if those decisions have been to my disadvantage. The film shows the stories of three different relationships portrayed as one.”

Her debut single "Take From Me" made an incredible start. In addition to the already gained national success, Áslaug managed to put herself on the international map. For example; Spotify placed the track in eleven New Music Friday playlists, well-known blogs such as "Line of Best Fit" and "Spindle Mag" picked up the song and wrote praising words. She was one of the most acclaimed acts of Popronde festival 2019 and was named ‘3FM Talent’ by one of the largest

Dutch national radio stations. Playing the Eurosonic Noorderslag festival last January was inevitable with big media outlets such as 3voor12, Metro and NU.nl naming Áslaug as one of the most promising artists of 2020. Deezer also picked Áslaug as their Deezer-NEXT talent for 2020. “So you want to see the light?”. 2019 was just the beginning, 2020 is the year that will be all about Áslaug.
