Birdy Hunt releases debut single "WHo They Are"

The band met in 2007 in a castle buried in the woods outside of Paris. Don’t ask them why, they wouldn’t know. But that meeting symbolises well the way Birdy Hunt works : coming from the capital, but being always a bit outside of it; playing a popular genre, Pop Music, but always exploring new ways to approach it, in studio as well as live.

A few weeks later, the guys played their first gig in a fashion designer school, which ended with a mannequin bust crashing on a student and siren alarms. Birdy Hunt was born, classy and trash at the same time, crazy but sincere in their frenzy.

Marc, Marius, Romain, Nicolas and Manu were all deep into listening to garage music and interested in reproducing that kind of sounds. The band’s name was influenced by a former girlfriend who used to sign her paintings Blondy Birdy Hunt. Birdy Hunt could mean a kind of hunting girls (although the singer says they have never been a band which attracts groupies...), or the reverse, birds hunting, or at last, a strange, possibly crazy hunt. Whatever you choose, that name is eventually quite relevant about the spirit the boys are in when they tour.

Unlike most of the bands usually deciding to play in their city and around, Birdy Hunt’s first tour took place in the UK : fifteen gigs, a lot in London, that really shaped the group as it is now, that enabled them to know each other and become friends, ... the castle’s meeting was quite fresh. They now play big venues and festivals in France, Belgium, but further too : China, Japan, Taïwan.

Shoplift is according the band : "fun tainted with spleen". Most songs refer to friendship, love and city party, but the veneer of joy quickly vanishes to a deepest mood, a tender melancholy.

As their music, the album title is dual and absurd : on the one hand, it says « steal our music », on the other hand, it refers to a brand new and unknown student association united in Paris and overseas against ... junk food.

Produced in the UK and finished in Strasbourg, this debut album offers a great combination between epic pop themes (The Wombats, Two Doors Cinema Club, Phoenix) and darker new wave riffs (Joy Division sometimes, Bloc Party, Future Islands). Live all the power of these songs is completely revealed by the madness of the drummer Marius and the keyboarder Manu, by the sober elegance of the guitarist and bass player (Nico and Romain) and by the fragile powerful voice of Marc.
