Bnny Share New Track "Breaking Up" Ahead of European Tour w/Dehd

Bnny – the Chicago-based quintet led by Jessica Viscius – today unveil a new single/visualizer, “Breaking Up.” Continuing along the teary-eyed, moonlit path of their 2021 debut Everything, “Breaking Up” is “yet another breakup song,” Viscius jokes. “A reflection of my past and present.” Recorded and mixed by Dave Vettraino, “Breaking Up” is accompanied by a visualizer shot by Alexa Viscius on Super 8 film. Grounded by Jessica’s lulled vocals and nostalgic instrumentation courtesy of her band – twin sister Alexa, and a revolving cast of friends including Tim Makowski, Adam Schubert, Matt Pelkey, and Sarah Weddle – “Breaking Up” is Bnny’s most immediate track to date, a universal and irresistible earworm. “I’m looking at photos // remembering when,” Viscius intones in her ever-cool voice,“Breaking up and making up // and breaking up again.”

Written in sessions that spanned several years as bandleader Jess Viscius processed the death of her partner, Everything may as well be a field recording taken from the lone country of grief. The album is a chronicle of love at its most complex and loss at its most persistent, and garnered praise from the likes of NYLON, Pitchfork, NPR Music, DIY Magazine, The Line of Best Fit and more. Following Everything, Bnny released the standalone single “I’m Just Fine” at the top of 2022, which was praised by The FADER for its “careful, dirge-like instrumentals [that] set a perfect scene for Jess' somber vocals.”

Bnny’s sparse but wrenching Americana has earned her cosigns from musical peers like Cassandra Jenkins, Kate Nash, and Kevin Morby. Tonight, Bnny will play the first show of their UK/EU tour supporting fellow Chicago indie-rock pioneers, Dehd, with select headline shows along the way.
