Cousins Jaan and Alma release first collaboration 'Bloodlines'

The fall of 2021 brings forth a first collaboration between cousins Jaan Hantson and Aurealma, titled Bloodlines. The song is a result of a single afternoon of co-writing, after years of mutual respect for each other’s musical trajectories. Although each artist has a distinct musical voice, Bloodlines manages to capture the overlap of both identities perfectly. It has - in their own words - strengthened the family bond as well.

Jaan (2000), who is currently a graduating student at ICMP in London, and Alma (1991), who’s been working in the Belgian performing arts scene, were both inspired to explore their own artistic endeavours by their musical family. Jaan has enjoyed an education as a classical pianist and is a self-taught guitar player. Alma has been a harpist since childhood and is often involved in different projects, from Ansatz der Machine to Stef Kamil Carlens’ backing band.

“We used to have to perform carols for our family during Christmas time,” reminisce Jaan and Alma. “But now that we’re no longer forced to do it, we enjoyed it much more thoroughly. Co-writing Bloodlines was thrilling, and insightful. We were able to learn a lot from each other.”

Bloodlines has opened the door to future possibilities. Jaan will be playing the piano on one of Alma’s future projects, and they are thinking of writing a movie soundtrack together. But first, Jaan is graduating his degree at ICMP and planning to travel abroad next year. Alma is working on a first project within music theatre and is writing her first full album.

Bloodlines is out on November 12th on all platforms.
