Copenhagen-based guitarist and composer David Slyter makes his solo debut with the instrumental guitar album ‘Shadowland’, set for a release later this year. The album fuses prog rock, shred guitar and shoegaze in a spiritual search for new musical horizons, an understanding of life’s many facets, and ultimately, a connection with the cosmos. Today, the album’s first single ‘Fortune Teller’ is released, which David Slyter describes as "a tornado made of wonder, pain, dreams and euphoria".

David Slyter is an experienced and versatile musician who has spent years moving through the Danish underground scene. Among other projects, he has played in the indie band Communions and is currently guitarist in the bands Chopper and Why Sun. Slyter draws inspiration from a broad range of music and artists, including guitar heroes such as Buckethead and Steve Vai, and bands such as Mew and Cocteau Twins.

What characterizes all of these influences is a simultaneously beautiful and violent expression — a central trait in Slyter’s own musical work, which unfolds fully on his first solo album ‘Shadowland’, the first in a series of upcoming instrumental releases from Slyter.

The music is virtuosic, yet never empty technical spectacle, and with the guitar at its center, the listener is guided through a melodic and emotionally charged cosmos where complex prog rock, energetic shred guitar, dreamlike shoegaze, and spiritual ambient unite in a higher expressive harmony.

‘Shadowland’ explores the shadows that life casts over us throughout our lives — a fundamental human condition. The album is about the struggle to escape those shadows and to live life fully while there is still time. Its central theme can therefore be distilled into hope and the courage to live despite adversity.
