Falcon Jane Shares "Man of Action" | Album 'Legacy' out Aug 23rd

Ahead of the release of their alt country LP, Legacy, on August 23rd via Darling Recordings, Falcon Jane today shares the part eulogy, part funeral march, part outlaw country song – “Man of Action”.

Legacy sees Sara May, aka Falcon Jane, expound on her origin story, through the great archetypes of country music: the drinker, the vagabond, the absent father. It was after May wrote “Man of Action” that the album began to take shape for her. “Man of Action is a crucial piece in my exploration of the country music archetypes. We've heard many songs about partying and recklessness, but what becomes of those men when they're at the end of their days?

“Man of Action” is written from the perspective of a wild man at the end of his life, reflecting on his golden years and all the decisions that brought him to where he is now, reckoning with the helpless man he has become. He is asking for comfort, understanding, and forgiveness from his child - a role reversal in his final hours. Trying to find peace in his passing after a lifetime of power and unrest.

“I absolutely love the pedal steel solo that Dylan S. Keating wrote and performed on this song. It feels very fitting; this push and pull between happiness and despair, major and minor.” The song also features violins by Lee Rose (Ace of Wands), backing vocals by José Contreras (By Divine Right), and performances on various instruments by Andrew McArthur (Falcon Jane).

Legacy sees May alongside her partner and bandmate Andrew McArthur transformed both lyrically and musically. Together with producer José Contreras (By Divine Right), Falcon Jane refined their sound—pushing toward folk and country like contemporaries Waxahatchee and Angel Olsen. May’s voice, the one constant from 2015’s Alive n Well EP, through the dream pop of her 2018 debut album Feelin’ Freaky, to the sprawling indie rock of 2020’s Faith, is more powerful here, sitting atop the warm, Nashville-leaning production.

Legacy is Falcon Jane’s return, recollection, reinvention and culmination. It’s a perfect moment looking both forward and backward towards the same North Star.
