Felix Hill returns with the poppy, drivetime alt-rock of 'Circumstance' - OUT NOW
Singer-songwriter Felix Hill returns with Circumstance, a cut of poppy, drivetime alt-rock, inspired by visceral stage front festival experiences. Capturing the rush of meeting somebody special while wrestling with the uncertainty of everything that might come next, the single resounds with thud of open-hearted honesty colliding with punky guitars and a hands-throwing chorus.
Following his springtime single, Comfortable Silence, Hill continues a songwriting tradition built around upfront, observational lyrics backed with a full band playing at main stage volume. Circumstance finds Hill taking stock of a moment when excitement and apprehension collide, the point of impact as two people find each other. However, with the thrill of the new comes the weight of the unknown. The single cautions against falling into the into the trap of worrying about the future and diluting the joy and sense of possibility that exists in a fleeting moment.
Hill’s preference for personal, unguarded storytelling, expressing complex emotional themes is perfectly balanced by his youth and enthusiasm for living life to the full, resulting in poetry that doesn’t resist the pull of a communal singalong.
He says of the single: “‘Circumstance’ was written after I went to Leeds Festival. I wanted to bottle up the energy and excitement of the festival and create a real sing-along chorus that you could imagine being belted out in the fields. The build-up and release of the guitar solo was made for people to jump around to.”
Recorded with producer, Ben Etches, at Kempston Street Studios in Liverpool, Circumstance fits comfortably into Hill’s expanding catalogue, including enduring live favourites like Swim Deep and Save The Tears For Later. Vitally, it’s a performance that keeps him in the realms of aspirational modern British guitar music that has made artists like Sam Fender, Djo and Royel Otis touchstones for new generations of listeners.
Outside the studio, Hill has continued independently to build his reputation onstage alongside his studio work, recently appearing on line-ups with established artists including Jack Van Cleaf, Clover County and Jack Cullen, with more live dates to come later in 2027.
