German duo Jolle announcing new album "Wirtschaft Arbeit Technik"

Hailing from the former seat of Prussian kings and German Kaisers, the Potsdamer noise rock outfit Jolle are the complete opposite of their picturesque hometown. Clad in flip-flops, swimming shorts and hippy t-shirts this power-duo create a whirlwind of inimitable garage rock on their debut album Wirtschaft Arbeit Technik. Casting their post-punk lives in a blend of German and English poetry, the duo consisting of Martin Mann (guitar, bass synth, vocals) and Enrico Semler (drums, vocals) balances on the edge of cheese and brilliantly/fucking hilarious.

Jolle’s take on life in a broken system is one with a big wink and a none-too-serious attitude, yet underneath you will find an earnestness that reflects in their undeniable charm and top-notch songwriting. Inspired by the East-German high school subject “Introduction to Socialist Production” this record marries post-communist propaganda with chaotic garage rock somewhere between the guitar wizardry of Frank Zappa and the rebellious intellectualism of Rock in Opposition

Recorded live in their home studio by the band and their friend David Seyfahrt, Wirtschaft Arbeit Technik is the epitome of a well-produced garage rock record, with a sound that somehow combines the warm tones of the jam bands and symphonic rock of the 70s, with the cold shoulder of punk bands like Fugazi and Wipers. You’d have a hard time explaining your friends and family that this band merely consists of two musicians. First single Wirtschaft Arbeit Tod is an exercise in eclectic garage rock dynamics that blends german spoken-word with krautrock and neo-psychedelica, while Digital Bullshit World is a raw catchy tune that displays the deceptively intricate production of this collection of eight tracks.

Enveloping the listener with a mixture German corporate quotes, spoken-word and counter-point singing, Jolle cast the life of a post-industrial Arbeiter in a wild prog-garage rollercoaster that should appeal to any fan of rock that is both vicious as well as intricate. Wirtschaft Arbeit Technik is above all fun and catchy and the German lyrics aren’t as much an obstacle as an invitation to delve deeper into this world of cynicism, pastiche and unabashed self-pity. No need for Google translate, these guys feed their dissent right through their tasty riffs and undeniable energy.
