Rising London indie-rockers The Horn have released their sophomore album ‘Catalyst’
Rising London indie-rockers The Horn have today released their sophomore album ‘Catalyst’ on digital formats and cassette. A limited 12 inch vinyl LP edition with three new tracks will follow in December.
Alongside the album release comes shimmering new single “Anyone’s Hero”, a bittersweet epic produced by Danton Supple (Coldplay, Elbow, Suede) and recorded with a full string section at Abbey Road Studios, in Studio 3 and the legendary Beatles’ Studio 2.
“Anyone’s Hero is very personal and poignant, looking back and forward at my life and everyone else’s,” explains The Horn bassist Nick True. “As someone once said to me, ‘you know a person when they can’t see you looking’, and even when you’re around people, your loved ones, friends & colleagues, you have to own it all, do it all, and make the most of it.”
Entirely produced by Supple. ‘Catalyst’ was recorded between Abbey Road and RAK Studios, where Radiohead and Arctic Monkeys made some of their masterpieces. A huge leap forward from their 4m streaming 2023 debut ‘People Like Us’, the cinematic, string-soaked ‘‘Catalyst’ sits somewhere between The Last Shadow Puppets and vintage Coldplay, especially on recent single “Beautiful Lie”. The album also takes in redemptive widescreen indie rock (“Back On The Path”), nonchalant indie-swagger ("Something You Forgot"), and pre-comedown euphoria “What’s The Score” across ten tracks that ebb and flow like the soundtrack to a contemporary London film noir.
Support tours with Starsailor and The Boomtown Rats have seen the band play iconic venues from London Hammersmith Apollo to Glasgow Barrowlands over the last two years, alongside headline shows across the UK and Europe.
The Horn are a band of natural born creatives - vocalist Jonny Taylor has a parallel career as an actor, most recently appearing Hamlet at the outdoor Minack Theatre in Cornwall over the summer, while guitarist Danny Monk is a prolific producer and mixer, collaborating with Father John Misty among others. Bass player Nick True, a generation older, shared stages with R.E.M. and The Smiths with his 80s band Friends of Gavin, who were within a whisker of being signed to CBS Records - until their hedonistic, party lifestyle put off the legendary label head Muff Winwood.
The Horn came together after Nick and Edinburgh-born keyboard player Ed Cox joined forces with Jonny, Danny and drummer Alex Moorse, who had enjoyed success with their former band Montrell (Elton John was a fan). The five share a collective belief that music can be an antidote to the negativity and anxiety of the modern times. “I think that there's always room for escapism through music,” explains Ed. “Our live shows and songs aim to provide respite from the chaos around us, where people can indulge in good times.”
That is not to say The Horn are disconnected and unengaged. Politically aware rather than political, they hold up a mirror to their world as it really feels. 'Catalyst’ is a record for our times.
