Sandhouse release second EP 'Pollyanna', new single 'Into Nothing' out now

South London duo Sandhouse today release their second EP Pollyanna via Broke Records, and announce a London headline show at The Courtyard Theatre for 3rd December. The four-track EP also introduces previously unheard focus single 'Into Nothing'.

Fresh from tour dates with US indie-rockers she's green and Bristol risers MOULD, Sandhouse’s new EP finds romantic fantasies colliding with fairytales and female demons. "Writing this music was part of a healing process and a way to untangle all the complicated feelings that arise from escaping from a terrible situation," vocalist Anna Sutherland explains.

New track 'Into Nothing' explores what can be lost in the pursuit of an idealised version of yourself, moving through veils of flickering drum beats and electronics, Caspar Holloway's prismatic guitar effects and distorted, melodic basslines.

Speaking about the track, Sutherland notes: "'Into Nothing' is about the performance of modern beauty, and the self-reduction that occurs in order to conform.”

Across Pollyanna, Sandhouse pair warped indie rock with strange, visceral imagery, folding together grunge guitars, bleary trip-hop production, warped psychedelia and nocturnal alt-pop with Sutherland’s seductive, darkly playful lyrics.

Earlier single 'Snapdragon' explored the excitement of recognising a lie and choosing to believe it, while the EP's title track disappeared further into what Sutherland describes as the "cinema of infatuation". Most recent single 'Gasoline' looked back from the other side, as once-sacred memories become tarnished by a new understanding of the relationship that produced them.

The EP takes its name from Eleanor H. Porter's optimistic heroine, exploring the impulse to keep believing in someone despite mounting reasons not to. For Sutherland, writing became a way to take back control of experiences that had left her feeling powerless, shaping both the lyrics and her vocal performances:

"We often talk about the songs being spells or me having magical powers," Sutherland explains. "For the vocal recording for parts of the EP I imagined I was a giant monster that was part woman, part crow when I stepped up to the microphone."

Reading Hans Christian Andersen’s original The Little Mermaid and accounts of succubi and sirens, alongside conversations about the anime Fullmetal Alchemist, fed into that imagination. Across Pollyanna, the desire to disappear into romance sits alongside the urge to become something powerful enough to escape it.

Sandhouse’s musical language comes from a similarly wide-ranging exchange. Sutherland and Caspar Holloway first bonded over dance music, soul and Arthur Russell, and still spend much of their studio time playing music to each other. Their ambition is to make guitar music that carries the feelings they find in hyperpop, rap, soul, dance music and film soundtracks.

"A lot of our process is creating a powerful sound and then trying to figure out how to make it human, or find the complexity within it," they explain. "Or creating something very vulnerable and then adding the power to it."

Much of the EP was written and recorded across the second half of 2025 and early 2026. 'Pollyanna' and 'Into Nothing' emerged during a writing retreat on an estuary in Suffolk with Jay Flew, with further recording taking place at Sandhouse’s studio and alongside Ben Hillier in Lewes.

Band member Joel Kovoor plays drums across the record, with Anthony Boatright contributing bass to 'Snapdragon' and 'Gasoline' and Ben Reed (Frank Ocean, David Byrne) appearing on 'Pollyanna' and 'Into Nothing'. Jake Burgess contributed lead guitar alongside tape-machine and contact-mic experimentation to 'Into Nothing'. The EP was produced by Caspar Holloway, mixed by Nathan Boddy and mastered by Kevin Tuffy.

Their 2025 debut EP Circus (which has surpassed 5 million streams on Spotify) and subsequent singles have been tipped by key press tastemakers including The Line Of Best Fit, DIY Magazine, Rolling Stone UK, Dork Magazine, Under The Radar Magazine, The New Cue and more. Radio support to date includes regular spins across BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music and BBC Introducing (where the band were named Track of the Week).

The duo have also built a growing reputation on the live stage, with sold-out headline shows at London venues Corsica Studios, The Lexington and Peckham Audio helping spread the band's reputation through word of mouth, alongside support dates and tours with Dove Ellis, PORIJ, she's green, MOULD, swim school, Bleach Lab and Panic Shack.
