Hear the new track Heat through Soundcloud
“Heat” is a meditation on using our unique struggles as fuel for growth.
This song explores the flow of creativity and vitality through the movement of water in the atmosphere. The narrator is singing to an oppressive force that creates a parched and suffocating landscape, but soon learns that the very heat that stifles her is the same energy required to trigger the flow of rain. By the end of the song, the narrator realizes that, much like a storm, she is far too mighty to be contained – be it by her anxieties, her body, or anyone who tries to hold her down or put her in a box.
Following the release of Health, my debut EP, I spent a couple of years quietly focusing on my health by seeking treatment for anxiety and depression, which have held me back since childhood. During this time of personal excavation, I wrote a full-length album, Sense, which explores themes of high sensitivity, pleasure, over-stimulation, panic, and depression. I teamed up with Toronto’s Sandro Perri, who co-produced, engineered and mixed the record.
Sense boasts a mixture of solo vocal looping and live instrumentation, featuring such artists as Steven Foster (Omhouse, Doldrums) on drums, and Juno-nominated Tara Kannangara on trumpet. It will be released on May 4, 2018, and celebrated with an album release show that night at Toronto’s Burdock.
