Iconic 80’s Band Ten City Release Brand-New Version of The 1989 UK Top 10 Classic ‘That’s The Way Love Is’

1989 – The year that birthed the second summer of love, was a fortuitous time for Ten City, as they unleashed their own brand of House music, packed with love and positivity. In the process, they captured the imagination of the nation’s youth and transformed themselves into a household name. Now almost 25 years later and taken from their forthcoming album, ‘Judgement’ set for release this summer, they re-release the 1989 classic ‘That’s The Way Love Is’ with a full edit from original members Marshall Jefferson and Byron Stingily out today.

The dance and soul-tinged single reached #8 in the UK’s official top 40 and #1 in the USA's Dance Club Play chart, as well as having influence on pop culture long after it was released, showing Ten City’s impact and legacy. Although success in the UK was not always guaranteed and despite their fortunes in the charts, along the way they had to take some risks. Their original label was not willing to fund a UK tour, so Bryon Stingily took fate into his own hands and approached relatives for help...

“I went to see my grandmother, who was totally against me doing music and she told me to go over and cut the hem of the curtains with a razor blade. So, I cut the hem and 10,000 in cash fell out the bottom. We took that money and did a promotional tour of the UK.”Byron Stingily

The Original ‘That’s The Way Love Is’ was taken from their debut album, ‘Foundation’ which was one of a small handful of house albums released in the late 1980’s, that are now regarded as classics of the genre. After a 25-year hiatus Ten City have now returned to save us with perfect timing; In a world of lies and misinformation, Stingily’s lyrical positivity has never been more needed than it is now.

Jefferson and Stingily’s new version is fully reworked, with a new string intro and resung by Byron himself in his inimitable falsetto style. Complete with a new piano line, bright percussion and funky guitar licks, that track still remains as uplifting and fresh as the day it was originally released.

With a flurry of new remixes on the way Ten City, continue to be influential and respected. Their new 5thstudio album ‘Judgement’ marks a sensational return for one of House Music’s most enduring bands.
