I’m Not a Blonde Release New Single "QUESTA LINGUA", New Album "11 (The Art Of Being A Couple)" Out on May 15

The Italian-American electropop duo I’m Not a Blonde is back with “Questa Lingua”, the latest single from the upcoming album 11 (The Art of Being a Couple)”, out on May 15.

“Questa Lingua” was born from a personal and artistic reflection that runs through the duo’s identity. Chiara, Italian-American, grew up between English and Italian: while English has been from the very beginning the most instinctive and natural language for the duo’s writing and performing, in recent years – partly through collaborations with Italian artists – a new expressive space has opened up. Italian emerges as an equally defining language, yet less spontaneous, still in the process of being explored.

“From this an inner dialogue was born – I’m Not a Blonde say – “the desire to explore a part of oneself that is still unfamiliar, still fragile, and for that very reason alive. “Questa lingua” was born from this friction.”

Sonically, the track pursues a study of language as raw material, before it becomes meaning. It opens with a groove built on vocal fragments, words broken apart and reassembled, sparked by a real, almost provocative question: “So are we actually making this record in Italian?”.

In keeping with other tracks on the project (including the previously released “Scegli Me” and “Hip Hop in the Fog”), “Questa Lingua” helps define one of the album’s central themes: the construction of a shared identity, where languages and belonging intertwine to generate a new expressive form – both artistic and personal.

It is an inner dialogue, but also a game: lightening the burden of an identity choice in order to rediscover a freer form of expression. Words transform into sound, rhythm, body – until they themselves become percussion. A process that restores to language an instinctive dimension, releasing it from the need to be mastered and allowing it, instead, simply to happen.

11 (The Art of Being a Couple) is a work that interweaves the personal and artistic journey of Chiara and Camilla, where love and creativity reflect and transform each other. In 11, the tracks become fragments of a relationship in progress: from falling in love to crisis, through to rediscovery, and through personal and artistic identity. Each song is a mirror, a milestone along the way.

I’m Not a Blonde is an Italian-American duo based in Milan, consisting of Chiara Castello and Camilla Benedini. Their elegant electropop - featuring ’80s-style synths and beats, ’90s Brit-wave guitars, and sharp pop melodies - strikes a perfect balance between the two personalities: irony and madness, fun and seriousness, minimalism and artpop, digital and analogue. All of this is wrapped in a veil of melancholy that gives their music a distinct identity and unmistakable style.

Over the years, they have performed at various Italian and international festivals, sharing the stage with artists such as Duran Duran, Moderat, Soulwax, Peaches, Ghostpoet, Hurts, and many more.

Live, their sonic architecture - layered loops of vocals, guitars, synths, and electronic beats - fills the stage with the power and impact of a full band.

Their style has captivated world-renowned artists, who have chosen I’m Not a Blonde as their opening act in Italy: Franz Ferdinand in 2018 at Bologna’s Unipol Arena, The Killers at Rock in Roma (2018), Wolf Alice for their sole Italian date in 2018, and Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park in 2019 in Milan and Padua.
