Izzy Mahoubi Releases New Video For “bury a friend” (Billie Eilish Cover) Out Now Via Rude Records

Today, singer-songwriter Izzy Mahoubi is excited to share her take on Billie Eilish’s “bury a friend”. Fans can listen to the new cover, out now via Rude Records, here.

Speaking on the new cover Izzy shares: “When I first heard Bury a Friend by Billie Eilish in 2019, I was instantly amazed and energized by the lyrics and eerie production from this song. Breaking out of the expectation that Billie would release another bedroom pop single, she bore a song that shocked everyone and that inspired me. I quickly reimagined the synth-pop song into a blues-y acoustic rendition that I would play all over Arizona which led to many people turning their heads and asking if it was an original. Recording it with a full band did this song justice as it turned into an alt rock anthem that my friends and I scream in the car. This song has been a consistent influence to me as an artist as it encourages me to push the limits of the songs I write and how I sing them”.

Earlier this month, Izzy shared the video for her latest single “Hang Around”, a track recorded in Nashville about reminiscing about old memories all while looking towards the future. “Hang Around” is the first single taken from Mahoubi’s upcoming EP (set to drop in spring 2023) and follows the latest singles “Easy Come Don't Go”, “Today”, “One More Song” which were reisussed by Rude Records in late September.

With a musical literacy way beyond her 17 years, Izzy Mahoubi is already charming the world with her refreshing melodies, engaging lyrics and youthful perspective. Described as “contagious pop with radio friendly hooks and commanding vocals” by the Arizona Republic, Mahoubi’s talent for blending the very best of indie pop, rock and jazz is undeniable. Her love of songwriting and storytelling was sparked by Tom Petty, Taylor Swift and The Beatles from an early age and she began performing at the age of 12 around Arizona and in Nashville, Tennessee - it’s no mean feat to take on Music City as a young teenager!

Developing her sound through influences such as Amy Winehouse, Brandi Carlisle and Phoebe Bridgers, Mahoubi has really come into her own this year. At the beginning of 2022, she put together her live band and had almost-instant success opening for the likes of Laundry Day while building her profile and headlining her own shows. After graduating high school this past May, Mahoubi has spent this summer pursuing her music career full-time, writing dozens of songs, perfecting her live performances and growing her fanbase on platforms such as TikTok, Instagram and Spotify with her undoubtedly honest lyrics and effortlessly charming personality. This hard work didn’t go unnoticed as she signed with Rude Records in September. There is so much more to come for Izzy Mahoubi!
