Jungle By Night & MEROL release new single "Sexy Genoeg"
Jungle by Night announced a surprisingly new album in many ways a few weeks ago. 'Synergy' is now the seventh album by the Dutch band and will be released on September 13 via V2 Records. After an earlier collaboration with Spinvis and Meral Polat, Jungle by Night released their latest single on Friday; a collaboration with MEROL called 'Sexy Genoeg'.
After the single 'Oog om Oog' with Spinvis, which was released a few weeks ago, Jungle by Night now joins forces with MEROL. 'Sexy Genoeg' questions modern beauty standards, wrapped in a shiny plastic package and glazed with MEROL's sweet, sultry voice. This track deliberately opts for the sound of a live-played set instead of an overproduced track.
Collaborating with Jungle by Night was different from MEROL's usual work process. "I really enjoyed working with Jungle by Night. It took some getting used to for me. There were eight of us in the studio with all live instruments and no computer! Usually, I work with just one person and the laptop is the main instrument, haha. I found it very inspiring and it definitely left me wanting more!" - MEROL
During their 15-year musical journey, Jungle by Night has always known that their music is not about individual talent, but about the combination of all the elements that the members bring in. This realization led to the theme of their seventh album, 'Synergy.'
With the mantra "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts" in mind, Jungle by Night embarked on a mission to create an album where all instruments are recorded live as much as possible simultaneously, to capture the energy between the musicians optimally. Their own studio in Amsterdam Noord offered all sorts of possibilities in that regard. To take it a step further, they opened the doors of that studio and invited several vocalists, resulting in diverse and surprising outcomes. Spinvis, Sef, Pitou, and Meral Polat all make an appearance on the album, each bringing their own unique style into the mix.
Jungle by Night are seven Dutch guys who form a collective to be reckoned with both live and on record. The music of the Amsterdam band consists of drums, bass, guitar, percussion, and synths, enhanced by trumpet and trombone. From the more brass-focused earlier albums to a stronger focus on electronic groove on 'Synergy,' they boldly go where no band has gone before. Always in search of experimentation, they now find themselves in the Goldilocks zone, where they have created a unique style from analog dance music, nu-disco, Krautrock, 70s funk, and 80s electro.
Recorded in their beloved studio in Amsterdam Noord, 'Synergy' captures the essence of Jungle by Night's creative spirit. Here, imperfection is embraced and spontaneity reigns. Jungle by Night can be seen this summer at Wilde Weide, North Sea Jazz, Lowlands, and Into The Great Wide Open. The album release will be celebrated with two nights in the Great Hall of Paradiso on September 12 and 13.
