Kill Shelter Unveils Surprise Electroacoustic EP: “Slow Burn Sorrow”

In a striking departure from his signature sound, Pete Burns of Kill Shelter unveils Slow Burn Sorrow - a 7-track EP that strips production and arrangement back to their most essential elements. Recorded between 2021 and 2025, this personal collection of selected electroacoustic works presents a deeply personal and candid artistic statement.

Built around minimal instrumentation, rudimentary drum machines, and haunting textures crafted entirely from guitar, Slow Burn Sorrow stands as Burns’ most introspective work to date. Words and vocals take centre stage, creating an intimate experience that leaves space for interpretation and reflection. Stylistically, the release draws on influences ranging from Nick Drake and David Sylvian to The Durutti Column and Fennesz.

“This is a very personal release and something I felt compelled to do. Slow Burn Sorrow is a small selection from a greater body of work. I wanted it to feel intimate and immediate – just me, the words, and the guitar,” Burns reflects. “There’s an inherent vulnerability in stripping things back to their essence. Without the usual layers of polished production, every note and every silence can carry weight, poignancy, and meaning. For now, everything I have to say is wrapped up in these seven songs.”

The first single is a moving tribute to Mark Hollis: a restrained and minimal reinterpretation of Talk Talk’s “I Don’t Believe in You”, reinforcing the EP’s understated yet visceral approach.
