King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard confirm major Bristol Sounds 2027 show!

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard announce major UK live date for 2027, confirming huge 5,000-fan Bristol Sounds summertime set

Bringing psych, garage, folk and electronic sounds from their 28-album career to one of the UK’s most dramatic festival backdrops, unpredictable, genre-fluid Australian six-piece, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are announced today as Bristol Sounds 2027 headliners. Having last played in the city in 2024, their long-awaited return to the Southwest for a special 5,000-capacity appearance counts as one of their biggest outdoor headline shows to date.

The latest announcement from the long-running series of summer shows based at Canons Marsh Amphitheatre, a historic part of Bristol’s former industrial waterfront, it follows confirmation of drum and bass legend, Roni Size’s headline Bristol Sounds set on Fri 25 June 2027.

Releasing their latest album, Alien Meta, in August, the Melbourne band are regularly cited as one of the world’s most innovative, important and productive bands. Signing off their last round of touring the UK with an unforgettable show at London’s Royal Albert Hall, backed by the Covent Garden Sinfonia, last November, the band responds to constant demand for their spellbinding performances by announcing a statement return.

Having first played the Bristol 12 years ago, entertaining just over 400 lucky fans at The Fleece, tickets for King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard at Bristol Sounds go on general sale on Fri 30 October, 9am GMT with a limited pre-sale open from Thu 29 October via sign up at https://arep.co/m/king-gizzard-the-lizard-wizard.

Celebrating 13 years of Bristol Sounds in 2027, the unique waterside amphitheatre has previously welcomed headline artists including Manic Street Preachers, Super Furry Animals, Elbow, War On Drugs, The Breeders, Placebo, Skindred and Supergrass as well as providing vital early festival exposure to emergent talents such as Lime Garden, Getdown Services, TTSSFU and Mary In The Junkyard. In hosting the city’s main mass celebration of live music, the venue itself takes a starring role.

“It’s such a special site,” founder of Bristol Sounds, Conal Dodds said in a recent magazine interview. “You can see Bristol’s history all around you – the cranes, the industrial buildings, and St Mary Redcliffe Church lit up at night. It’s a proper backdrop.”

Having last played indoors at the 2,200-capacity Bristol Beacon following the release of two 2023 albums, the stoner metal of PetroDragonic Apocalypse and electro-psych collection, The Silver Chord, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have continued to court a fervent worldwide fanbase within what they have termed ‘The Gizzverse’.

Continuing a singular journey that started with their 2012 debut, 12 Bar Bruise, Stu Mackenzie (vocals/guitar), Ambrose Kenny-Smith (harmonica/vocals/keyboards), Cook Craig (guitar/vocals), Joey Walker (guitar/vocals), Lucas Harwood (bass) and Michael Cavanagh (drums) are famed not only for their prolific work rate, but their open source Bootlegger initiative. Cultivating an engaged community that presses its own vinyl, the network also develops band-related graphics and engages in artistic discourse.
