Ballarat heavy metal band reveals new dual-vocal sound and will headline a Halloween comeback show in Mildura.

Ballarat heavy metal band Distorta will release their new single and music video for Into the Light, on Tuesday 27 October 2026. It's the first song from a reworked line-up and a new sound, and the start of the boldest chapter in the band's history so far.

A NEW ERA, A NEW VOICE

With dual vocalists Cherie Briody and Dmitry Keremetskiy now out front, Distorta have far more options when writing songs. The pairing has pushed the band in a more melodic and atmospheric direction. Cherie's powerful clean vocals sit against Dmitry's thundering heavy vocals, so the band can move between beauty and brutality within a single song. Underneath, the riffs and rhythm section the band are known for are as heavy as ever.

THE SINGLE

Into the Light is the first song Distorta have released that they would class as a metal ballad. It deals with the pain of watching someone you love fall ill or near the end of their life, and of not being ready to let them go. Many listeners will know that feeling, and it makes this the band's most emotional and personal release to date. It shows a more vulnerable side of Distorta without losing any of the band's weight and intensity.

THE VIDEO

The music video was shot at The Painted Lady Hotel in Ballarat, with outdoor scenes filmed at a separate location. Moving between open outdoor scenes to intimate indoor scenes with a fist pumping crowd, the video gives the song's themes of love, loss and holding on a visual setting to match.

DON'T GET COMFORTABLE: THE HEAVY STUFF IS COMING

Fans shouldn’t expect the band to have gone soft!! Into the Light may reveal a more vulnerable side of Distorta, but it is only one part of a much broader evolution. The new material pushes further into the contrast created by Cherie Briody’s clean vocals and Dmitry Keremetskiy’s heavy delivery, combining catchy vocal melodies, layered harmonies and atmospheric textures with crushing riffs, breakdowns and the band’s trademark intensity. This expanded vocal and musical range is allowing Distorta to write songs that are heavier, darker and more dynamic, shifting naturally between intimate moments, soaring hooks and explosive aggression without losing the raw power at the heart of the band.

COMMENTS FROM DISTORTA

“Into the Light shows a side of Distorta that people haven’t heard from us before. It’s more melodic and atmospheric, but it still has the weight and intensity that have always been at the core of the band. Cherie and Dmitry’s voices have opened up a whole new range of possibilities in our songwriting.”

- James Bogers, Distorta

“This song is a real turning point for us. We wanted to write something honest and emotional without losing the power of Distorta, and the dual vocals let us move between vulnerability and heaviness in a way we couldn’t before. The rest of our new material is heavier and more powerful, combining catchy vocal melodies and big hooks with crushing riffs and breakdowns. It’s the start of a bigger, darker and more dynamic sound for the band.”
