Les Biologistes Marins live in Netherlands for two show: Amsterdam and Nijmegen - The Italian ambient duo explores with their music the values of water

Les Biologistes Marins is a project that merges music, water and video material, their work explores the intersection of sound and narratives related to water, investigating how their artistic creations find connection with contemporary issues such as the rising sea temperatures, water consumption and waste, and noise pollution. The Italian duo is composed by Beatrice Miniaci, a classical flutist and performer, and Anton Sconosciuto, drummer, producer and composer.

The duo will play live in Netherlands on two distinct events: at Cafe Latei in Amsterdam on October 25 and at Extrapool in Nijmegen on October 27.

If places were sounds, their first album, is a collection of experimental ambient compositions that take the duo to the deepest soundscapes, blending electroacoustic music with Japanese ambient.

The record was conceived along the Ligurian coast and inspired by a boat trip around the world that Beatrice Miniaci undertook in 2024. She captured video footages of the sea, which led to the duo's first collaboration. Immersed in oceanic views, the nine compositions emerged naturally, all produced by Les Biologistes Marins except for “Clouds” by Hiroshi Yoshimura, a legend of Japanese ambient music who significantly influenced the album’s composition.

What began as a musical exploration based on improvisation, with videos of aquatic elements, quickly evolved into a multidisciplinary research, examining the relationship with water and the unique meditative state of improvisation. Their goal is to transcend self-awareness through an intimate analysis on our connections with water, capturing this quest in sound. Long improvisation sessions with acoustic instruments (flute, percussion, synths, etc.) and water manipulation were fundamental to the development of the project, steering it towards a fluid and electroacoustic soundscape.

If places were sounds will officially be released on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, by JIPO Records and will be performed live during a 13-date European tour across England, Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands, supported by the Jazz It Abroad 2024 grant, a project promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) and managed by SIAE.
