Lettuce | 'Keep On' - new single by US funk sextet co-written with Emilio Castillo (Tower of Power) out 22nd October 2025

The lauded US sextet Lettuce have been serving up their brand of fresh, additive-free funk on a silver platter for years, delighting fans of all things groovy, soulful and fresh. Having just completed a European tour with four sold out shows at Ronnie Scott’s in London to pre-promote their highly anticipated new album, ‘Cook’, a fourth single from it entitled ‘Keep On’ STREAM VIDEO has been issued today.

‘Keep On’ is a tribute to Californian R&B/funk greats Tower of Power and is actually co-written by Lettuce with that band’s leader and original member Emilio Castillo, the two acts getting to know each other via co-billing at various festivals and symphony collaboration shows. “It's a song written from personal experience and about not blocking your blessings,” explains Lettuce vocalist Nigel Hall. “I hope the message in this song is conveyed properly to those experiencing similar feelings. Just. Hold. On.” Bassist Erick ‘Maverick’ Coomes expresses a similar sentiment, adding: “Never quit. Always continue trying. Keep up the practice.”

“I’m very proud to be involved with 'Keep On’," says Castillo. "I was contacted during the pandemic by Adam Deitch, the amazing drummer in Lettuce, and the idea at the time was to put out a song about dealing with COVID. It’s a killer funk groove with horns and a soulful vocal, and I’m so glad it’s finally coming out!”

Out on 3rd December, ‘Cook’ also includes the recent singles ‘Gold Tooth’ STREAM VIDEO, ‘Rising To The Top’ (a cover of the Keni Burke classic) STREAM VIDEO and ‘Breathe’ STREAM VISUALISER, already offering several flavours of both urgent and blissed-out funk, soul and hip-hop found on the full record.

‘Cook’ isn’t just a nod to Lettuce’s musical heat; it’s an invitation to join the band at the table, where funk, soul, jazz, rock and hip-hop come together in one rich and flavoursome dish. The album offers a menu of delights that marks a group exploring new sonic territory, further expanding its ever-widening musical palette following tours with rap icon GZA (Wu-Tang Clan) and reggae artist Ziggy Marley, plus the live album and concert film ‘Lettuce with the Colorado Symphony’ issued in early 2025.

‘Cook’ also manages to deliver a generous dose of Lettuce’s patented funk, paying tribute to James Brown and his J.B.'s and honouring mentors like Maceo Parker and the aforementioned Tower of Power. For these six lifelong partners, their new songs feel like a nourishing meal that entices all of the senses. “This record is a little more three-dimensional than our past albums,” explains Deitch. “It shows a lot more sides to the band, exploring further depths of production and arrangements.”

Lettuce are about to play a series of shows in Australia and Japan ahead of residencies in Honolulu, Seattle and Denver. A New Year's Eve show in Los Angeles will be followed by a US tour in January.
