LETTUCE | 'Rising To The Top' - new single by US funk sextet out 13th August 2025 | from the album 'Cook' out in December 2025
The lauded US funk sextet Lettuce have issued a cover version of Keni Burke’s much sampled 1982 soul-funk classic ‘Rising To The Top’ as their new single today (13th August). A love letter to the '80s R&B influences that shaped the band’s sound, their take on it is a carefree, late-summer soundtrack imparting a message of positivity and self-assurance. An accompanying video taking viewers through a Lettuce studio session with intimate shots and retro filters can be seen HERE.
Lettuce drummer Adam Deitch deems ‘Rising To The Top’ “a classic tune paid serious tribute by the incredible Nigel Hall on vocals and keyboards,” with Hall himself adding: “I heard this song as a kid, learning the original through Hip-Hop. As per usual, I was stuck on it like many tunes I checked out this way in my formative years. I always wanted to play it and am grateful to have turned this into reality.”
A follow-up to the recent ‘Gold Tooth’ STREAM VISUALISER, the new single is the second track to be teased from the band’s forthcoming album, ‘Cook’, which will be released on 3rd December via their own Lettuce Records and pre-promoted in Europe with a tour that begins in mid-September and concludes in London with two nights (comprising four sets) at Ronnie Scott’s:
